Roosevelt University celebrated excellence in assessment, mentorship, research and service during the 2025-26 Faculty and Staff Awards, held April 17 on the Chicago campus and streamed to colleagues at the Schaumburg campus. Hosted by the University Senate, the annual event recognized faculty and staff whose work strengthens student learning, contributes to scholarship and advances the University’s mission.

“The Office of Academic Affairs is pleased to announce the winners of the 2025-26 Faculty and Staff Awards! Every year, the Faculty and Staff Awards celebrate the excellent work occurring across the RU community in the areas of Assessment of Student Learning; Innovative Course Design; Mentorship; Research; and University Service, allowing us to recognize colleagues who inspire us, support students and student learning, contribute to the discovery of knowledge and help our University thrive,” said Dr. Marjorie Jolles, Vice Provost for Academic and Faculty Success.

The Assessment of Student Learning Award was presented to the Psychology Undergraduate Program Group, including Dr. Jill Coleman, Chair and Professor of Psychology; Dr. Mia Marcus, Associate Professor of Psychology; Dr. Steven Meyers, Professor of Psychology; and Dr. Elijah Ricks, Associate Professor of Forensic Psychology. Their collaborative approach to curriculum design and outcomes assessment reflects a sustained commitment to improving how students learn and succeed.

Two Innovative Course Design Awards highlighted creative approaches in the classroom. Dr. Sungwon Ahn, Associate Professor of Actuarial Sciences, was recognized for developing engaging, forward-thinking coursework that connects theory to real world application. A second award honored the Chicago College of Performing Arts “Team-Teaching the Performing Arts” Faculty, including Mikael Burke, Jonah Francese, Christopher Wayland Jones, Dr. David Kjar and Dr. Ashley Pribyl, whose interdisciplinary model expands how students experience performance-based education.

Mentorship remained a central theme throughout the ceremony. Joshua Campbell, Academic Advisor in the Department of Biological, Physical and Health Sciences, and Dr. Jerry Schnepp, Associate Professor and Chair of Computer Science and Cybersecurity, were both recognized with Mentor Awards. Their work reflects a deep investment in student growth, guiding learners through academic challenges while helping them prepare for future careers.

The Research Award recognized faculty whose scholarship contributes to the broader understanding of their fields. Dr. David Faris, Professor of Political Science, and Dr. Oluseye K. Onajole, Associate Professor of Chemistry, were honored for research that advances knowledge and engages students in meaningful inquiry.

Two University Service Awards acknowledged the essential contributions of staff members whose work supports the University community. Deonna Alexander, Associate Registrar, and Lori Stanton, Digital Experience Developer in the Office of Web Design and Development, were recognized for their dedication to improving institutional processes and enhancing the student experience.

Together, this year’s honorees reflect the breadth of talent across Roosevelt University. From innovative teaching and impactful research to mentorship and service, the award recipients demonstrate the collaborative spirit that defines the institution. As the University continues to build on its legacy, these faculty and staff members play a vital role in shaping an environment where students can thrive and succeed.
