Moving day is a big part of the college experience, and a little preparation can make it much easier. Use this page to find the key dates, instructions, and resources you’ll need when moving into or out of Roosevelt University housing.

Moving In: Wabash Building

How Wabash Building Move-In Scheduling Works

You will be assigned a move-in date and time. Move-in time slots and dates will be sent in a welcome email from the Office of Residence Life, a few weeks before the semester begins. They will also be available on the housing portal.
Move-in dates are based on:
- When you completed your housing application
- If you are an athlete/CCPA, as well as which athletic team
- If you are a new or returning student.

The Move-In Process for Wabash Building Residents

Location: 425 S. Wabash Ave. (between Van Buren and Ida B. Wells)

Wabash is a one-way street (southbound)
Approach from north of Van Buren to reduce traffic congestion

Check-In Process

On your move-in day:

Arrive at your assigned time
Pull up to the building (if driving). Arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before your time slot
Unload your belongings onto Speed Packs (rolling carts)
Move your belongings into the building
Complete check-in and pick up your room key

Unloading & Parking Rules

You may use the unloading zone for up to 15 minutes only
Do not leave your vehicle unattended, unattended vehicles may be towed
After unloading, move your car to long-term parking
Roosevelt does not provide parking, so plan ahead; apps like SpotHero or BestParking can help

Additional Check-In Steps

You may move through these stations:

Unloading area (if arriving by car)
Guest check-in (if bringing guests)
Room key pickup (Level 1M)

Wabash Residents may check-in up to 3 guests during move-in.

ID Required

You must have a Roosevelt ID to receive your room key
If you don’t have one yet, you will need to get it before check-in

Mail & Packages (Wabash)

Every student has a personal mailbox
Mailbox details are emailed after move-in. If you receive paper mail before your mailbox assignment, you can pick up your paper mail from the Office of Residence Life on the 14th floor of the Wabash building, between 9am-5pm on Monday-Friday.
Please use the following address for all your mail: 430 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60605
Delivered packages may be picked up from the mailroom on the first floor of the Auditorium Building, next to the campus safety desk. Please note that the mailroom is only open on Monday-Friday during work hours.

Delivery timing:

Packages: can arrive up to 1 week before move-in
Pick up packages at: Mailroom (Auditorium Building, 1st floor lobby)

FAQs

I will be moving into the Wabash building, but I cannot move in during my designated timeslot?
- If you would like to request an earlier move-in time, please email reslife@roosevelt.edu with your original AND desired move-in time/date, and the Office of Residence Life will notify you if they are able to accommodate for this request. Please note that the request is not guaranteed and will be pending availability.
Can I move in outside of regular work hours for the Wabash building?
- Yes. If you are moving in after the standard office work hours, you should check in with the campus safety officer at the front desk upon your arrival. Campus Safety will notify the Resident Advisor on duty to assist you with obtaining your room key.
Can I request to move in at an earlier date, outside the move-in window?
- No; early arrivals for both the UC and the Wabash building will not be permitted.

How University Center Move-In Scheduling Works

You must schedule your own move-in appointment through the University Center Student Portal
Instructions will be emailed to you in a Welcome message from University Center (Peakmade)
Be sure to:
- Check your Roosevelt email
- Check your spam/junk folder
- Add the sender to your contacts to avoid missing important messages

Unloading Instructions

Go to Holden Court (via Ida B. Wells Drive)
Pull up at your scheduled appointment time
Someone must stay with your vehicle at all times

After unloading:

Move your car immediately
Parking is not provided
Nearby garages and apps like SpotHero or BestParking can help

Speed Packs (Moving Carts)

UC provides large rolling carts (“Speed Packs”)
Most students can move everything in 1–2 trips
You’ll need to leave an ID while using them

Moving Out: Wabash Building

Winter & Spring Breaks for Wabash Residents

Winter Break
- If residents will be returning for the spring semester, but do not want to stay over winter break, they DO NOT have to move out their belongings. Residents will not have to pay for the winter break if they do not stay on campus. Residents will not be charged for keeping their belongings in their rooms over the winter break (i.e. residents will only be charged if they stay on campus during the winter break).
- Wabash residents who wish to remain on campus during Winter Break will have to pay a nightly rate, depending on their room type. Refer to the winter break stay form for nightly rates.
- Residents who wish to reside on campus during the winter break must submit an “Intent to Stay” form, which will be emailed to residents via their student email towards the second half of the Fall semester. Residents who do not complete this form within the specified time frame will not be able to stay on campus.
- Meal plans during the winter break will be limited at the Wabash building.
Spring Break
- Wabash residents can stay on campus during Spring Break at no additional charge.
- Meal plans during the spring break will be limited at the Wabash building.

Moving Out Permanently

Fall

If you are graduating in the fall, you must submit a housing cancellation request BEFORE graduation, to avoid getting charged for the spring. Please login to the housing portal and submit a housing cancellation request. You will be required to provide proof of graduation (i.e. a document indicating that you applied for graduation).
If you are not graduating in the Fall, but decide you no longer want to live on campus in the Spring, you must submit a housing cancellation request and provide the required documents.
Steps to move-out:
- Once your housing cancellation request is approved, you can move out anytime.
- When you are ready to move-out, please obtain an “Express Checkout” form from outside the Office of Residence Life.
- You must place your key in the envelope attached to the Express Checkout form. If you do not return your key (or if you lost your key) you will be charged $50.
- Fill out the Express Checkout form and place it in the black drop box outside the office of residence life.
- Please ensure that you leave your room in the state it was when you arrived (i.e. clean). Ensure that all of the furniture is placed in its original location. Any damages or missing furniture items will result in you being charged.

Spring

Important Things to Keep in Mind
- Know when your last class or final exam is. Start planning now for parents, guardians, friends, or others who may be helping you move your belongings out of the building.
- A maximum of two people may assist you with move-out at one time. Anyone assisting you must be checked in as a guest according to the usual guest procedures.
- Before checking out, you must:
- Remove all personal belongings from your room and suite.
- Clean your bedroom and all applicable areas of the suite.
- Remove all trash.
  - Trash must be placed in the trash rooms located on your floor.
  - lease break down all cardboard boxes.
  - Do not leave trash, boxes, furniture, or other items in the hallways.
Residents may not pay to remain in housing beyond the move-out deadline.
- All residents must be completely moved out and checked out by the date on the housing contract. At that time:
  - Access to the 14th floor and above will be discontinued.
  - Residents who have not properly checked out may be charged a $150 improper checkout fee.
  - Residents who remain on campus after the move-out date indicated on the housing contract form must have:
    - A valid summer housing contract, or
    - Approval through the Commencement Ceremony Participation Late Stay List may be charged:
      - A $150 per day improper checkout fee, and
      - The applicable nightly housing rate based on the room type occupied.
Checkout Options: Residents may complete either an RA Checkout or an Express Checkout.
- Option 1: RA Checkout: Resident Advisors will be available between 10:00 AM and 8:30 PM to complete scheduled checkouts one month before building closure.
  - Before Your Appointment:
    - Sign up for an available checkout time using the SignUpGenius link sent by the Office of Residence Life.
    - At the time of your scheduled appointment, your room/side of the room must already be completely empty and clean.
    - Make sure all personal belongings and trash have been removed.
    - During Your Checkout, the RA will:
      - Inspect your bedroom/side of the room.
      - Inspect applicable common areas and restrooms.
      - Document any damages or areas requiring additional cleaning.
      - Review and complete the Room Condition Report (RCR) with you.
      - Have both the resident and RA sign the completed RCR.
      - Collect your room key.
      - Escort you to the 14th floor for departure once checkout is complete.
      - If you are late or unprepared for your scheduled checkout, you may be charged a $50 improper checkout fee.
    - Option 2: Express Checkout (Available until May 12th)
      - How to Complete an Express Checkout:
        Pick up an Express Checkout Envelope outside the Office of Residence Life.
        Follow all instructions listed on the envelope.
        Place your room key in the envelope as instructed.
        Return the completed envelope according to the directions provided.
        By choosing Express Checkout, you waive your right to appeal charges related to cleaning or damages identified after you leave.
        Any resident checking out after 8:30 PM through May 12th must complete an Express Checkout.
Common Area Kitchens & Study Lounges: After 12:00 PM on May 12, custodial staff will begin clearing and cleaning these areas for summer housing. Any remaining items may be discarded. All personal belongings must be removed from the common area kitchens and study lounges by 12:00 PM on Tuesday, May 12. This includes:
- Food
- Dishes
- Cooking supplies
- Personal appliances
- Books
- Decorations
- Other personal belongings
Lost Keys
- Residents are required to return their room key during checkout.
- Failure to return a key will result in a: $50 lost key charge
Damages & Cleaning Charges
- Residents may be charged for damages found in their bedroom, suite, restroom, or applicable common spaces.
- Damage charges will vary depending on the nature and extent of the damage.
- Cleaning fees may also be assessed when a resident leaves their space excessively dirty or fails to remove trash.
- Cleaning charges will vary depending on the amount of cleaning required.
- Areas that may be evaluated include:
  - Bedroom
  - Hallway area within the suite
  - Toilet room
  - Shower room
  - Common areas
  - Trash removal
Before You Leave: Final Checklist - Before checking out, make sure you have:
- Removed all belongings from your room.
- Removed belongings from common areas and study lounges.
- Removed all food from shared kitchens.
- Taken out all trash.
- Broken down cardboard boxes.
- Cleaned your bedroom and applicable suite areas.
- Returned your room key.
- Completed either an RA Checkout or Express Checkout.

FAQs

I am a spring resident and will also be staying over the summer, will I have to switch my room?
- Yes, summer residents are typically placed in designated floors in the Wabash building over the summer. You will be required to move out of your spring room and move into your summer room assignment. You will be notified via your student email regarding your specific room assignment, alongside when you would be able to move in.
I will not be graduating or staying over the summer, but I need to move out at a later date.
- Please note that late move-out requests are accommodated on a case-by-case basis and are subject to availability of spaces. Please email reslife@roosevelt.edu with the requested extension period, and you will be notified if this is approved via your student email.
- Please note that you will be charged a nightly rate if you are approved to stay outside of the regular semester dates.

How to Check Out – University Center Residents

All residents must officially check out their suite/apartment by their move out deadline. Please ensure your UC Resident Portal login is up to date and that you’re able to successfully log in, as you’ll need access to complete the checkout process.

Remove your belongings from your unit.
Complete the Move-Out Checklist
Visit the Express Checkout Station (Floor 1) located by the Bicycle Storage. This is self service station available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Scan the QR Code and Complete the Online Express Checkout Form
Turn in your UC ID and key(s) at that time

Any of the following may result in additional charges:

Leaving ID/ Keys in your unit.
Leaving your ID/Keys with roommates/friends return the keys on your behalf.
Leaving ID/Keys with your RA
Leaving ID/Keys with the Security Desk
