Once you’ve signed your housing contract, your next step is to prepare for your arrival. Use this page to understand what happens next, when you’ll receive your room assignment, and how to get ready for move-in.
What Happens After You Apply?
Here’s what to expect between now and move-in:

- You receive move-in information
- You prepare for arrival
There may be some time between steps—this is normal in the housing process.
When Will I Get My Room Assignment?
Room assignments are released in stages, after applications are processed.
- You’ll receive your assignment by email
- Timing may vary depending on demand and application completion
- Some assignments are released in multiple rounds
Keep an eye on your Roosevelt email for updates.
Connect with Your Roommate
If you’re assigned a roommate:
- Reach out before move-in
- Coordinate who is bringing shared items
- Ask questions and introduce yourself
Coordinating ahead of time helps avoid duplicate items and makes move-in easier.
Preparing for your move
Getting ready to move in can feel overwhelming—especially when you're trying to figure out what to bring, what not to bring, and what’s already provided.
To make it easier:
- Review the lists below before you start packing
- Focus on the essentials—you can always get anything you forget
If you need something later, there are plenty of stores within walking distance, including:
- CVS and Walgreens
- Target
- Jewel-Osco (grocery store)
- Macy’s, Old Navy, Nordstrom Rack, and TJ Maxx
Room Service: Room Service eases the move-in process by offering a convenient way to select and order room essentials, from classic decor to the latest trends. Orders are prepared, packaged, and ready for on-campus pickup when you move in, ensuring a smooth and stress-free experience. Room Service is powered by the Roosevelt University Bookstore.

Protect your belongings with Renter's Insurance: Roosevelt University does not cover the cost of your personal belongings being stolen or damaged. We strongly suggest all on-campus residents to obtain renter's insurance before you move in! Roosevelt University has partnered with GradGuard, which offers a unique renter's insurance program that has protected over 500,000 students nationwide.

- Microfridge (Wabash residents can rent a MicroFridge through our campus partner. The unit will be delivered to your room prior to move-in and will be picked up after you move out from the academic year, making move-in smoother!)

Prohibited Items
In order to maintain a safe and inclusive living and learning environment in the residence halls, the following items are prohibited within the Wabash Building Residential Community:
- Unapproved pets (with the exception of fish in tanks not to exceed 10 gallons).
- “Daisy chains" made up of power strips and/or extension cords.
- Candles, incense, and wax warmers.
- Lava lamps.
- Appliances of any kind that emit an open flame or include an open heating element. This includes, but is not limited to, coffee makers (with an external heating element), hot pots, hot plates, deep fryers, toasters, toaster ovens, open heating coils, and griddles (pancakes, waffle makers, or George Foreman-type grills).
- Electrical heating appliances, such as space heaters, and portable air conditioning units.
- Refrigerators greater than 6 cubic feet.
- Bed risers of any kind are not allowed.
- Free weights of any kind are not allowed.
- Any illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, and/or drugs not prescribed to the resident.
- Firearms or weapons of any kind, including replicas or facsimiles. This includes, but is not limited to, pellet guns, paint guns, slingshots, airsoft guns, swords, foils, or archery equipment.
- Explosives, chemicals, or highly combustible materials. These include, but are not limited to, firecrackers, gasoline, vehicle batteries and/or unauthorized pesticides.
- Martial arts weapons and such potentially dangerous sporting equipment.
- Bicycles (must be stored in the bike room on the 1st floor of the Wabash Building).
- “Hover boards” and any motorized transportation devices. These include, but are not limited to, any motorized scooter, skateboard/longboard, or bike that is electric, battery powered, or gas powered.
- Alcohol apparatuses with an intended use of excessive consumption and/or high risk drinking (i.e. kegs, etc).
- Shot glasses, wine glasses, and any items with the intended use of consuming alcohol, by persons under 21 years of age.
- Alcohol, by persons under 21 years of age.
- E-cigarettes, "vaping" devices, hookahs, and their respective accessories.
- Any items which are prohibited under federal, state, or local laws.
