Housing Waitlist: What to Know

Why is there a waitlist?

There are more students applying for housing than available spaces. When housing fills up, additional applicants are placed on a waitlist.

How do I avoid being added to the waitlist?

Each year, the housing application opens in March. The waitlist typically begins in July or August. To improve your chances of getting housing, apply as early as possible. 

If I am on the waitlist, when will I get a room?

Housing is assigned as spaces become available (for example, when other students cancel).

• There is no set timeline
• Assignments happen on a rolling basis
• Please be patient and flexible

How will I know if I get housing?

All updates are sent to your Roosevelt student email.

• If you get a room → you’ll receive your assignment and move-in details
• If you don’t hear anything → you are still on the waitlist

Can I move in without an assignment?

No—you must have a confirmed housing assignment before moving in.

What if I decide not to wait?

If you find off-campus housing or plan to commute:

• Cancel your housing contract through the Housing Portal, or
• Email Residence Life

Can I live on campus later (spring term)?

Yes. You can:

• Live off campus for fall
• Apply for housing for spring

Some spring housing usually becomes available as spaces open after fall.

What happens to my housing deposit?

Your deposit will be applied to your student account:

• If you get housing → it goes toward your housing cost
• If not → it goes toward your tuition/fees

How is the waitlist managed?

Residence Life:

• Fills openings as they become available
• Verifies student eligibility (enrollment, financial status)
• Sends updates by email—check your inbox regularly
