Tell your truth. Find your voice. Sing your song. The BFA Musical Theatre program at CCPA blends intensive musical training including music theory, piano skills, and weekly voice lessons with Stanislavski-based acting training, voice and speech work, acting on camera, a three-semester Acting for the Musical Stage course sequence, a Pop-Rock class, Audition workshops, and a Business Practices course tailored for the versatile musical theatre performer. Musical Theatre majors take dance classes twice a week, and hour-long voice lessons.
One of the most unique features of our program is that we offer outstanding musical theatre performance training while also examining theatrical craft, literature and history through a social justice lens. This includes student-led projects, new works, as well as swing and understudy casting at the professional standard. Roosevelt University was founded on a mission of social justice, and that focus is centered throughout our students’ academic and artistic studies at CCPA.
Our faculty is comprised of full-time professors as well as many active theatre professionals who lend their unique talents and expertise to the Conservatory. At CCPA, our students learn from and work alongside Chicago's very best, and a low student/faculty ratio results in focused study tailored to each student's needs.
Located in the heart of downtown Chicago, CCPA is just steps away from Chicago's bustling theatre district and the Tony award-winning Goodman Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Lookingglass Theatre and Chicago Shakespeare Theatre — and our students have graced the stages of them all. Theatre Conservatory alumni are currently gracing stages on Broadway, national and international tours, regional theaters and cruise ships as well as Disney and Universal Studios theme parks, both in the U.S. and Asia.
