Why is there a waitlist?
There are more students applying for housing than available spaces. When housing fills up, additional applicants are placed on a waitlist.
How do I avoid being added to the waitlist?
As soon as the housing application opens, ensure that you submit the application as early as possible. Please review the dates for housing applications. To improve your chances of getting housing, apply as early as possible.
If I am on the waitlist, when will I get a room?
Housing is assigned as spaces become available (for example, when other students cancel).
- There is no set timeline
- Assignments happen on a rolling basis
- Please be patient and flexible
- Please check your student email regularly, as this is where you will be notified about housing placement
- Assignments are based on availability AND when the application was submitted (i.e. how early you submitted the housing application in relation to the application deadline).
- Please note that we may not be able to accommodate for specific rooming preferences if you are added from the waitlist, as this is largely based on availability.
How will I know if I get housing?
All updates are sent to your Roosevelt student email.
- If you get a room → you’ll receive your assignment and move-in details
- If you don’t hear anything → you are still on the waitlist
Can I move in without an assignment?
No—you must have a confirmed housing assignment before moving in.
What if I decide not to wait?
If you find off-campus housing or plan to commute:
- Submit your housing contract cancellation Housing Portal. Ensure that you provide all the required documentations for cancelling your housing. The required documents will differ depending on the reason for cancellation, and can be found on the housing cancellation form.
- NOTE: It will take several business days to process the housing cancellation request. You will be notified via your student email regarding the outcome of the cancellation request. Please note that submission of a cancellation request DOES NOT guarantee an approval.
If I decide to cancel my housing, what alternative housing options do I have?
Looking for housing off-campus, a potential roommate, or leasing opportunities? Check out College Pads, where we have worked with sites in the nearby area to be listed on the platform. While Roosevelt does not manage or endorse off-campus listings, College Pads is aligned with Roosevelt University's commitment to student support and will provide the tools and information students need to make informed housing choices.
Can I live on campus later (spring term)?
Yes. You can:
- Live off campus for fall
- Apply for housing for spring
Some spring housing usually becomes available as spaces open after fall.
I was not removed from the waitlist for the fall, but I would still like to live on campus during the spring semester.
- Please email reslife@roosevelt.edu noting that you would like to have your housing application fee and housing deposit be transferred to your Spring housing application. This will allow you to bypass the payment page.
- Please note that you will still need to submit a housing application for the spring.
What happens to my housing deposit?
Your deposit will be applied to your student account:
- If you get housing → it goes toward your housing cost
- If not → it goes toward your tuition/fees
How is the waitlist managed?
Residence Life:
- Fills openings as they become available
- Verifies student eligibility (enrollment, financial status)
- Sends updates by email—check your inbox regularly
