About this event

Occurring November 11 and 12, OperaFest is an annual festival featuring CCPA graduate voice students with piano accompaniment.

  • Handel: Serse, Act I (sung in Italian)
    • Shannon McGinnis, music director/pianist
    • Magda Travis, stage director
      • A comedy that begins with the famous aria "Ombra mai fu": Serse and his brother Arsamene are both in love with the high-minded Romilda; in turn, she and her flirtatious sister Atalanta both love Arsamene.  Love letters are delivered to the wrong person, and the misunderstandings grow!
  • Massenet: Manon, end of Act II (sung in French)
    • Dana Brown, music director
    • Raphael Chou, pianist
    • Jennifer Barrett, stage director
      • This heart-rending act of Act II delivers two of opera's most famous arias, "Adieu, notre petite table" in which Manon says goodbye to the simple life she leads with Des Grieux, and "En fermant les yeux" in which he dreams of the life they could have together. She is saying goodbye, he is saying hello to a dreamy life in the country - how will it end?
  • Vittorio Giannini: Beauty and the Beast (sung in English)
    • Dana Brown, music director
    • Raphael Chou, pianist
    • Jennifer Barrett, stage director
      • A 4,000-year-old story comes to life in this highly romantic version by American composer Vittorio Giannini. Complete with a Storyteller, the other Two Daughters, and a Gardener who watches it all happen, the Father and the cursed Beast compete for Beauty's devotion.
  • Michael Ching: Remove Shoes Before Entering (sung in English)
    • Dana Brown, music director/pianist
    • Jennifer Barrett, stage director
      • A teacher takes his students on a field trip to an abandoned building, in which a pair of shoes and other objects inspire stories and memories.

Free performances - no reservations required. Non-Roosevelt guests may be asked to show photo ID to enter campus buildings.
