*These steps are components of the Study Abroad Application that you receives after you have met with the Office of International Programs
**To submit the Financial Aid Worksheet, you must also have submitted the FASFA, if you plan to use financial aid to cover tuition expenses during your study abroad experience
***If you are studying abroad for your final semester, your degree conferral may be delayed until RU receives your official transcripts from abroad and processes those course credits
How to Get Started
1. Independently Research Programs
- Explore study abroad programs at the Office of International Programs. Your choice of programs will be influenced by academics, geographic location and finances.
- Do you want to study in English of another language? Study abroad is a great way to learn another language or improve your second language skills!
- Consult your academic advisor to determine remaining degree requirements.
- If you have general education requirements or electives remaining these are often a good choice for study abroad as there is more flexibility in what class you may take.
- Discuss desire to study abroad with family members.
- Carefully assess to total cost of the study abroad program you have selected.
2. Talk to your Academic Advisor
- Let your advisor know your would like to study abroad. This will help you plan your classes.
- Are there classes in your major you can take while studying abroad? If not how many electives do you have? What classes must you take at Roosevelt? When are they offered?
- Have you taken all of your general education requirements? This is a great way to fulfill requirements for humanities and social sciences!
3. Meet with the Office of International Programs
- In order to begin the application process, you will need to meet with the Office of International Programs.
- To book an appointment with the Office of International Programs, use the Navigate application and select “International Programs".
4. Begin the Study Abroad Application
- After meeting with the Office of International Programs, you will be sent a link to begin the Study Abroad Application.
- Review the timeline listed above and complete the steps by the deadlines indicated.
- The Study Abroad Application is a multi-step process which includes applying to your selected Study Abroad program, receiving approval for the courses you plan to take abroad, and completing a financial aid worksheet.
5. Receive Final Approval
- You will be required to submit a few subsequent documents such as your flight itinerary, health insurance, and housing information so that the Office of International Programs can best assist you while you’re abroad.
6. Upon arrival at program
- Notify the Office of International Programs, international@roosevelt.edu when you arrive in your study abroad site.
- If you would like to take classes that have not been pre-approved by Roosevelt University contact Office of International Programs.
7. Before returning to RU
- Official transcripts from your Study Abroad Program must be sent digitally to international@roosevelt.edu or mailed to:
