The Montesquieu Forum was founded in 2008 by a generous grant from the Jack Miller Center. The Miller Center is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that provides a wide variety of ongoing resources to U.S. college and university professors who are finding ways to increase understanding about America's early history and principles.

The Miller Center continues to support the Montesquieu Forum in its various endeavors, and in 2014, along with the John Templeton Foundation, facilitated a grant for the creation of a Montesquieu Forum Postdoctoral Fellowship in the History of Political Thought.

The Montesquieu Forum has also received generous funding from the Apgar Foundation, the Brinson Foundation, Arthur Weil, and Alton Harris.
