About Me
Dr. Hu received his Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from Soochow University, Taipei, Taiwan. He then received Master of Science and PhD degrees in Molecular Genetics from The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship and served on the research faculty at Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Institute of Genetic Medicine, Johns Hopkins Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Hu worked as Assistant and Tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and was Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kansas Health Science University, Wichita, Kansas. He is now Founding Director and Professor, Integrated Biomedical Sciences, College of Science, Health, and Pharmacy, Roosevelt University, Schaumburg, Illinois.
Dr. Hu has been conducting biomedical research focusing on functions of genes, proteins, and crucial pathways (such as APOL gene family and proline metabolic enzymes) in cancer, atherosclerosis, and end-stage kidney disease. He has formed and served as the principal investigator (PI), co-PI or co-I in several NIH- and DOD-funded, transdisciplinary collaborative teams. Dr. Hu and his teams have published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Dr. Hu has mentored and trained numerous junior faculties, postdoctoral fellows, medical, graduate, and undergraduate students. He has been recognized nationally and internationally for his outstanding teaching and research, for example, 3 times by the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) as a "Minority-Serving Institute Faculty Scholar." Dr. Hu has committed to mentor the next generation of visionary scientists and leaders in biomedical and health Sciences.
