About Me

Dr. Amrendra Kumar is an occupational therapist, educator, researcher, and academic leader with nearly three decades of experience across clinical practice, higher education, program development, accreditation preparation, and outcomes-focused scholarship. He currently serves as the Founding Program Director of the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program at Roosevelt University, where he has played a central role in developing the program’s curriculum, accreditation documents, fieldwork infrastructure, strategic plan, advisory board, and community partnerships.

Dr. Kumar joined Roosevelt University in May 2025 as the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for the developing MSOT program. He holds a PhD in Health Sciences with a concentration in Neurological Rehabilitation from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. His clinical experience spans outpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing, and home health settings, with expertise in upper extremity rehabilitation and functional outcomes assessment. He is the developer of the Chicago-Quick Hand Function Test, a validated assessment tool designed to evaluate hand function in adult populations.

His scholarly interests include hand function outcome measurement, interprofessional education, curriculum development, clinical reasoning, fieldwork education, and the preparation of future occupational therapy practitioners for diverse and evolving healthcare and community-based settings. He has published in peer-reviewed journals in the areas of hand function assessment and interprofessional education.

Dr. Kumar was recently inducted as a Distinguished Fellow in the Occupational Therapy Academy of the National Academies of Practice, recognizing his leadership and excellence in interprofessional healthcare. He is passionate about advancing equity in healthcare, strengthening community partnerships, and preparing compassionate, reflective, and practice-ready occupational therapy professionals.
