About Me

Dr Buckman is the Fogelson Chair of Real Estate and Associate Professor of Real Estate in the Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate at Roosevelt University. As well as a recent Fulbright Scholar Fellowship awardee to Brazil where he studied land value capture in Rio de Janeiro. As a real estate professional and urban planning/real estate educator for more than 20 years, Dr Buckman’s background covers multiple sectors in real estate, urban planning and teaching graduate education. Dr Buckman’s experience overlaps many sectors of the real estate industry, including commercial brokerage, office development, horizontal development and multi-family mixed use development. Along with hands on real estate development and brokerage Dr Buckman consults to developers on issues of zoning changes and community outreach as well working with municipalities in rewriting economic development and resiliency plans and doing his own developments. Dr Buckman holds a PhD from Arizona State University in Urban Geography. Dr Buckman’s academic work is focused on three primary areas: resiliency, waterfront development, and community real estate development. Dr Buckman has written numerous articles on community resiliency, canal-oriented development, and stadium development among others. Dr Buckman recently published a book on Public Private Partnerships as it pertains to real estate development and another book on Community Real Estate Development and is presently writing a book on canal oriented development which looks at doing real estate development on underutilized urban canals and canalized rivers.
