    Looking at a crime scene to learn about the character of the perpetrator makes compelling television, but how much of those scripted stories is based on science versus art? This interactive session explores the reality of criminal profiling.
  • A Career in Education: Teaching for Social Justice | Prof. Elizabeth Meadows, PhD | WB 135
    Connect, share and learn how education is developed as a tool for equity and social justice. This faculty-led session will explore the relationship between education and  society while also providing the opportunity to hear first-hand experiences from students and alumni panelists.
  • Change in the Modern Workplace | Prof.  Debra Orr, PhD | WB 1017
    Professional life has changed at a rapid pace over the last year. Join Dr. Debra Orr as she discusses managing the unpredictable human aspects of change and principles for successful change management in the realities of the workplace. Dr. Orr will share themes and stories from her book Team for Change: A Practitioner’s Guide to Implementing Change in the Modern Workplace. The book lays out issues present in the human side of change and basic principles for making decisions about the change  process as well as the stories of other industry experts as a roadmap for successful  organization development.
  • A Different Kind of Honors: Deeper Ways of Looking and Learning | Prof. Marjorie Jolles, PhD and Prof. Sarah Maria Rutter, PhD | WB 611
    Join us for your first RU Honors Program “class,” where we will make the world come alive intellectually. In the Honors Program, we invite students to practice the arts of looking and learning through the lenses of your academic major, distinct interests, unique personal background and future goals. How do we spark creative, engaged learning where we take risks and ask challenging questions? In this interactive, discussion-based session we will do just that: critically examine scenes from ordinary life from individual and academic perspectives.

  • Students & the Sustainable Future: True Stories of the Astonishing & Amazing Power of Students to Change a University and, Quite Possibly, the World | Prof. Mike Bryson, PhD | WB 418
    This interactive presentation grapples with the many sustainability challenges facing us – toxic pollution, water scarcity, climate change, environmental injustice – and argues that despite the difficult road ahead of us, all is not lost. There are many reasons for hope, including (and especially) our students. We will imagine what a truly sustainable and environmentally just future looks like, and we’ll discover how we at Roosevelt University can help create that future through collective action and a fierce focus on social justice.
  • The Role of Organic Chemistry in Drug Design and Discovery | Prof. Oluseye K. Onajole, PhD | WB 911
    Organic chemistry plays an essential role in the chemical synthesis of pharmaceutically     relevant organic molecules. Examine the importance of stereochemistry in drug synthesis and how basic modifications can reduce or eliminate metabolically liable functional groups — a process which drastically improves the compound’s chemical stability in the biological system.
  • Income Tax Considerations for Independent Professionals | Prof. David Knutsen, PhD | WB 1017
    The traditional relationship between employees and employers has gone through dramatic changes in a relatively short period of time. Join Dr. David Knutsen as he discusses the impact on your income tax responsibility when working for multiple employers simultaneously, working as an independent contractor, and running (or starting) your own business as a sole proprietor.

    For many people, the notion that a college or university could restrict admission because of one’s race, religion or gender is unthinkable. But that was the case just 70 years ago when Roosevelt University was founded. Learn how Roosevelt’s act of courage changed the face of higher education in 1945 and how we continue to challenge social norms today.
  • Transitioning to College: A Panel Discussion
    Join residence life, academic success, career services and campus safety experts to hear about the college transition process.
  • An Investment Worth Making: Understanding the Cost of Your Student’s Education

    Applying for and securing financial assistance can be a complicated process, but don’t worry — we are here to assist. This session will prepare you to properly consider all funding options available to you and your student and will review the steps required to finalize financial aid and payment arrangements at Roosevelt.
