The BA in Health Science Administration provides students with 24 semester hours of core content and nine semester hours of electives to allow students to pursue their own interests in administration, lab science management or technology. Students will complete an internship or capstone course designed to focus on their career interests, and will be well prepared for graduate study in public health, healthcare administration or health policy.

Expectations & Requirements


Health science administration classes provide students with opportunities to expand their existing knowledge of health care and science and to acquire a broad perspective of societal issues and economic challenges facing our health care system. We encourage students to augment their degree with a minor in psychology, data science, biology, chemistry, Hispanic studies, African American studies, women’s and gender studies, organizational leadership, general business for non-business majors, or human resource management.

Graduates will be prepared to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of health care systems, including their organization, structure, performance and terminology
  • Synthesize knowledge of economic, socio-cultural, legal, population health and policy issues to address today’s complex health care issue
  • Identify the strategic, tactical and operational issues that drive the health care industry as a whole, as well as the inter-relationships between its various segments
  • Apply organizational and management theories and principles in a variety of health care and medical laboratory settings
  • Apply skills of information management, quality improvement and performance measurement effectively in a variety of health care settings
  • Demonstrate an awareness and both critical and entrepreneurial thinking skills in order to address health disparities
