The minor in Bilingual/ESL Education program prepares teacher candidates to address the learning and socio-emotional needs of English Language Learners. This focused, field-based program prepares every candidate to work democratically with children and families that have second language backgrounds. It leads to either to the Illinois bilingual or English as a second language teaching credential.
The Bilingual/ESL Education minor prepares future educators to improve student learning with children and families who have a first language other than English. The minor leads to either a bilingual or ESL endorsement on an Illinois Professional Educator License.
I love teaching prospective teachers how to work with English Language Learners. It is one of the most rewarding activities that I engage in, and helps me to feel that I am making a difference not only in my own workplace, but throughout the Chicago area.
