Honors Program Admission Application

Thank you for your interest in the Honors Program. Please make sure to carefully review the instructions below, as well as our webpage and blog.

Skilled in effective communication and intellectually curious, Roosevelt Honors Program members are dedicated to setting and achieving academic, personal, and professional goals. We’re looking for members who reflect these traits.

Instructions

Please be prepared to complete this application form in its entirety. There is no option to save progress and submit it later.

The Roosevelt University Honors Program application requests the following:

  1. Your contact information and your current academic status.
  2. Typed responses to 2 short answer questions (each answer should be no fewer than 250 words, and no more than 400).
  3. An academic writing sample (see below for details)
  4.  An academic letter from a teacher or instructor (not a principal, guidance counselor, coach, or employer) with a short answer description of the assignment and how you were evaluated, etc.

 After we receive your application, the Honors Program will contact you and may request an interview in the next step of the application process. If your application is incomplete or items are not correctly submitted, we will request that you resubmit a full application.

Only submit work that is fully authored by you (not by any form of generative AI) and accurately cite any sources.

Short Answer Questions

Respond to two of the following short-answer prompts. Each response should be 250-400 words.  Use this opportunity to demonstrate your curiosity, creativity, and writing skills.

  1. What are some of your favorite words (in any language) and why?
  2. So much of the reading we do is online, on a screen. When it comes to reading books, though, which is better? E-books or paper? Why?
  3. What does your name mean to you?
  4. If you had to put together a playlist for this application, what are three songs that would be on it, and why?
  5. What are you most thankful for? What do you think this says about you?

Academic Writing Sample

Please attach an academic writing sample from a recent class in your junior or senior year (including dual enrollment) or from a recent college course that best demonstrates your ability to analyze and/or argue effectively and gives insight into your intellectual and academic interests. We do not accept Common Application essays.
 

In the space below, include the following information:

  • What was the assignment or essay prompt?
  • What score or grade did you get, and why? If available, include a rubric or instructor comments.
  • Why did you choose this piece of writing and what does it demonstrate about your strengths as a writer and learner?
One file only.
100 MB limit.
Allowed types: pdf doc docx.
Make sure the sample is formatted with a proper heading (name, date, class, etc.) and title.

Recommendation Letter

Submit a letter of recommendation, which must: 

  • Be from someone like a teacher or professor who can speak to your academic abilities, skills, and character
  • Be on letterhead and identify the recommender’s institution and position
  • Include a signature
  • Include the recommender’s contact information (phone and email)

In the space below, explain your relationship to your recommender and why you asked them to write a letter on your behalf.
