Bachelor's in Acting, BFA

In our actor training, we move from the idea of pretending on stage toward the process of becoming the character and actively living within the story. Along with performance opportunities in CCPA’s theatre productions, acting majors can also begin to understudy and perform at some of Chicago's best storefront and smaller Equity theatres as well as our larger regional theatres -- including Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Court Theatre, the Goodman and more.

The BFA Acting program provides students with rigorous training in Stanislavski system- based principles and other techniques drawn from Uta Hagen, Michael Chekhov, and Viewpoints for crafting character. Voice and speech training draws primarily from the teachings of Kristin Linklater and Patsy Rodenburg and combines healthy vocal development of the speaking voice with that of the singing voice from our very first classes in Fundamentals of Acting to Acting for the Musical Stage. As the program progresses, students master heightened language in Shakespeare and historical text courses as well as on-camera technique, circus arts, voiceover basics and stage combat. Dance classes and applied voice lessons are part of our curriculum as well, as we know our graduates will be doing it all! Become a storyteller who’s comfortable performing in multiple mediums and learn from faculty who remain working professionals in the heart of downtown Chicago!

Real-world Experience

The Theatre Conservatory of the Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA) consists of over 200 undergraduate students, divided between our BFA  Acting, Musical Theatre and Musical Theatre: Dance Concentration programs.  Students are guaranteed onstage performance credit while they are at CCPA — more time onstage means more training for your future career in the theatre.

Exceptional Faculty

Our faculty is comprised of full-time professors as well as many active theatre professionals who lend their unique talents and expertise to the Conservatory. At CCPA, our students learn from and work alongside Chicago's very best, and a low student/faculty ratio results in focused study tailored to each student's needs.

Live in a Global Theatre Capital
