Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA) has been selected as a partner institution for the Lyric Opera of Chicago's Opera Pathways civic engagement program for the 2026-27 academic year.
Roosevelt joins Kennedy-King College, North Park University and the Chicago Urban League in the highly selective initiative, with six spots reserved for CCPA students.
The experiential learning program runs from October through May and combines in-person and virtual programming designed to help students explore creative and administrative careers in the arts. Participants engage in workshops, attend Lyric Opera performances and events and earn internship credit while developing leadership, advocacy and critical-thinking skills.
Students may choose from three pathways focused on arts administration, production and leadership, gaining direct exposure to industry professionals and the inner workings of one of the nation's premier opera companies.
"This opportunity reflects our commitment to preparing students for successful and sustainable careers in the performing arts," says Shannon McGinnis, interim dean of the Chicago College of Performing Arts. "Opera Pathways gives students access to meaningful mentorship, hands-on learning experiences and a deeper understanding of the many careers that support the arts."
The partnership also creates professional development opportunities for faculty and staff who participate in program events alongside students.
McGinnis recognized Professor Rebecca Schorsch, program director of Classical Voice and Musical Theatre-Voice, for her leadership in securing the partnership.
"I wish to acknowledge the tremendous work and advocacy of Professor Rebecca Schorsch, whose leadership made this partnership possible," McGinnis says. "Rebecca will also serve as the program's primary liaison this year."
The connection between Roosevelt and Opera Pathways is already strong. A teaching artist in last year's program, Anthony Jones, is a Roosevelt alumnus who earned his Master of Music degree from CCPA and now serves on the Lyric Opera of Chicago's Learning and Civic Engagement team.
The new partnership provides Roosevelt students with a unique opportunity to build professional networks, gain real-world experience and explore a wide range of career pathways in the performing arts.
