Robert Seiser

About Me

I joined the Roosevelt faculty in 2004 and currently serve as Professor and Chair of the Department of Biological and Physical. I have the honor of working with talented faculty colleagues, undergraduate students and graduate students to grow and support our programs in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biomedical Science, and more.

My teaching responsibilities include courses in cell biology, research methods, fermentation science, and experimental biochemistry. In the laboratory, my research students and I study yeast cell physiology, responses to environmental stress, and fungal phylogenetic relationships. Along with students and collaborators, I have also presented numerous talks and conference papers on STEM education.

I have been involved with the SENCER project, which promotes the incorporation of civic learning and practice into science education, since 2005. I served as co-director of the SENCER Center of Innovation-Midwest (housed at Roosevelt) from 2013-2024 and am a two-time recipient of the organization's William E. Bennett Award, which recognizes extraordinary contributions to civically responsible science education.
