Roosevelt University alumnus Brian Shepard (BS Computer Science '00) was recently named the Illinois Library Association (ILA) Librarian of the Year. The award recognizes "distinguished service and leadership in Illinois libraries." Shepard is the executive director of the Indian Trails Public Library in Wheeling, IL. After earning his degree in computer science from Roosevelt, Brian went on to earn his master's degree in library and information science from the University of Illinois.

Shepard was recognized for improving community relations, establishing a summer lunch program, and creating an employee paid parental leave policy, in addition to securing significant grant funding and heading a multi-million dollar library renovation and expansion, according to an article in the Daily Herald

The Librarian of the Year Award will be presented at an awards luncheon on October 22, during the 2019 Illinois Library Association Annual Conference in Tinley Park.
