What is the CCPA Gig Service?
This platform gives students the opportunity to develop professional skills and find performance opportunities within the greater Chicago community. The Center for Arts Leadership hosts the Gig List at Roosevelt University Chicago College of Performing Arts and maintains the database submitted by the community and students. The Gig List is a valuable arts resource for the community and provides the student body with an additional source of income.
How does the Gig List work?
The Gig List is a place for potential employers submit requests for performers at events in the Chicago Area. Once submitted, events will be shared with CCPA student musicians. After submitting an event, employers will have access to the database of performers where they will be able to find and contact students who can fulfill their event needs. Students can easily search active opportunities and are responsible to communicate with the employer directly if interested in providing services at an event. As the employer, you may receive emails from several interested students and will have the opportunity to choose who best suits your event needs. There is also a possibility that your event will not receive any interest from students due to lack of student availability. Roosevelt University, CCPA, and The Center for Arts Leadership are not responsible for finding performers for your events once posted to the Gig Service Page.
Who are the performers available through the Gig List?
All musicians using our service are current students of CCPA. All of our student performers are of professional caliber, and their services have been approved by Conservatory faculty.
How much do students charge?
Students decide their own rates and fees, which are negotiated directly between the potential employer and performers. These rates are typically dependent on the length of time, travel costs, type of service, and the number of performers involved. We recommend a minimum of $50-75/hour per performer.
Please note: Our students charge standard professional rates. 100% of the fee goes directly to the students. As this is a service for CCPA students and the Chicago community, our office does not take a percentage of their pay. As such, all payments should be made directly to the performer.
How will I be contacted?
If students are interested in providing services for your event, they will reach out to you directly via the contact information listed in the posting to learn more specifics and to move forward with booking. Please note: The more specific your posting is, the easier it will be for the student performer to determine if their abilities suit your event needs.
What if I hear from multiple students?
If you hear from multiple students, feel free to select the student that is the best fit for your event. If you continue hearing from students after you have already selected a performer for your event, just write to the Center for Arts Leadership Office at infoCAL@roosevelt.edu to remove your posting.
What if I do not hear from any students?
Common reasons employers do not hear from students include: lack of availability on your selected date, low pay offered, or especially long travel requirements. This is a referral service only, not a contracting service; we are not able to guarantee any student availability. For this reason, we suggest posting your event details as early as possible.
Please note: Your posting will automatically expire after the listed event date has passed.
What kind of performers do you have available?
CCPA trains theatrical and musical performers in classical and contemporary styles. On the performer request page, there are several instrument and skill options to choose from. If you're looking for a performance type not listed or a specific genre of musical performance, please include this in your posting.
