Lakers Career Launch Program

The Lakers Career Launch Program is a structured career readiness program open to all Roosevelt University students. The program will provide a vast amount of career management experiences including workshops, panel discussions, lunch and learn sessions and many more. With development tools and one-on-one advising, you’ll be able to identify your key strengths, understand the job market, create a professional presence on social media and begin building your professional network.

Sharpen Your Skills

Whether you are planning for your first amazing internship or pursuing that exciting job opportunity, the Lakers Career Launch Program will help you hone the skills employers are looking for and give you the tools you need to achieve your career goals.

Benefits of participating in the Lakers Career Launch Program:

• Improve your career management skills and better prepare for today’s challenging job market.
• Hone your skills in professional communications and develop your professional branding statement.
• Acquire valuable skills and techniques in resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation and follow-up; social media presence (via LinkedIn); job search strategies, accepting offers and salary negotiation.
• Build your network and gain exposure to alumni and industry professionals.
• Increase your expertise in your professional development and build confidence.

Time Commitment

Launchers will participate in programming, workshops, and career-related events. While in the program, each student will be required to attend up to two large scale events, two small-scale experiences and meet with a dedicated career advisor a minimum of two times within the semester to obtain their Office of Career Services issued professional development badge and career development certificate.

Large-scale programs may include: 

• The Lakers Career Launch Symposium
• Career Fairs 
• Etiquette Dinner 
• Networking Events
• Young Professionals Association Conference

Small-scale experiences may include:

• Industry exploration seminars
• Job shadowing and/or employer/company visit
• Lunch and Learn Sessions
• On-campus/virtual career informational sessions
• Mock interview sessions
• Alumni for you/office hours with an employer partner or recruiter
• Earn a free professional headshot

Career advising sessions and workshops may focus on:

• Exploring your passion to articulate your strengths
• Strategizing your job search
• Understanding your values and interests using career assessments
• Crafting a solid resume and cover letter
• Creating or revamping your LinkedIn profile
• Developing your professional brand/elevator speech
• Evaluating job offers and salary negotiations

Program Completion

Upon completion of the Lakers Career Launch Program, you’ll earn your career development certificate and professional development badge to share on your LinkedIn profile and other social media channels for prospective employers to see.
