Black Summer: Race, Resistance and Resilience, inspired by James Baldwin’s No Name in the Street showcases the work of 11 photographers of color during the U.S. civil rights movement of the summer of 2020. Sparked by the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Breonna Taylor’s murder in Louisville, Kentucky, these photographers expose the burden and the harrowing experiences of being Black in America. Through these photographs, this exhibition exposes the structural inequities embedded in the fabric of American society, and how black communities throughout America, survive and thrive in the face of such oppression.
