About Me

Ryan Taycher is Director of Advising and Academic Planning in Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts. He received his Ph.D in Music Theory from Indiana University and has taught at CCPA, University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and Indiana University. His dissertation, entitled “De fundamento discanti: Structure and Elaboration in Fourteenth-Century Diminished Counterpoint,” develops a rigorous methodology, rooted in historical thought, for analyzing tonal structures and elaboration in fourteenth-century polyphony. He has presented on various topics at national, regional, and graduate student conferences, and his article on two songs by Hugo Wolf was published in the Journal of Schenkerian Studies. His research interests include late-Medieval and Renaissance polyphony, the history of music theory, and Schenkerian analysis.
