The Scholars Program Curriculum

For students entering the Scholars Program as freshmen, the Scholars program curriculum is a ten-course sequence. Students who enroll in the Scholars Program after their freshmen year will not be required to take the full ten-course sequence. The program will be tailored specifically for each student depending upon their previous academic course work taken at Roosevelt or another institution. Each concentration includes a core set of courses in creative writing and critical thinking in addition to a selection of specialty courses. Students culminate the honors program with a thesis, researched and written under the close guidance of faculty members.

Metropolitan Issues

Students are immersed in the study of metropolitan issues through a unique series of courses, including:

  • America’s Musical Traditions
  • Race, Gender, and Social Policy
  • Art and Architecture of Chicago
  • Literature of Chicago
  • Issues in Metropolitan Education
  • Chicago and its Suburbs: Friends or Foes
  • Leadership and Policy-Making

Science

Students take core honors courses combined with a series of specialty courses in the sciences including:

  • The Cutting Edge: Current Scientific Research Seminar
  • Seminar on Ethical Reasoning and Practice in the Sciences
  • Revolutions in Science

The specific Signature Courses and Seminar Courses offered will vary by semester. Consult each semester’s Class Schedule for the most current listings.
