Student Appreciation Week began in the late 1990s by the Office of Student Activities at the Chicago Campus.  The week was held in the fall and the first celebration included a candy giveaway, "guest chefs" in the HCC Dining Center, and a raffle for prizes.

The Office of Student Services now coordinates the week with assistance from dozens of volunteers.  The celebration has expanded from a few events at the Chicago Campus to over 60 activities at both campuses.
