Roosevelt University Assessment

Welcome to Roosevelt University!

We believe that accurate placement of students into courses appropriate for their skill level is the first step toward academic success at Roosevelt. One of the assessment tools used to assure appropriate placement into English and Math classes is the Roosevelt University Assessment (RUA). Based on your results and any previous college work, you may be exempt from certain English and math courses at Roosevelt, or you may be required to take additional English composition or math courses, regardless of any previous college coursework in these areas.

The RUA is a computerized test in three sections - writing, reading and math. Most students complete the entire exam in less than two hours, but there is no time limit and you may take as much time as you need. Testing labs are open on a flexible schedule with individualized start times each week at both the Chicago and Schaumburg campuses.  There is no charge for taking the RUA.

If you are a freshman with ACT or SAT scores received within the last 2 years and have completed no English or math since the test was taken, your placement in English and math will be determined by these scores. If you do not have those scores, you will take both parts of the RUA before registering for classes. 

Transfer students are required to take the English portion of the RUA but may not have to take the math portion if they have transferable math appropriate for their degree. Prior to registering to take the RUA, please contact the Advising Center at advising@roosevelt.edu to see if the math requirement can be waived.

Students will be required to provide either their Roosevelt ID# or their Social Security Number when they report to take the test.
