The general information provided below can be found in the HCC Resident Handbook in greater detail. Please visit the handbook online to locate additional information or to retrieve answers to any questions not listed.

Break Periods

The Residence Hall Application/Contract may not include charges for such regular academic year vacation periods and breaks that may occur during the period of the contract. Students wishing to remain in the hall during such times must make a request and gain permission by the Director of Residence Life. Additional charges may be assessed for housing during these periods. Services are limited during these periods. Please review the application/contract.

Cable

Students have access to cable in their rooms at no additional cost. They will need to bring or purchase a cable cord connecting their television to the cable outlet.

Computer & Phone Info

Two phone lines are available in each room. Students may share a jack and hook up their computer to the other or they may each have their own phone line.

Contract Release

If you wish to cancel your contract for any reason, you must complete a contract release form. A contract release administrative hearing will be held to determine what charges will be placed on your account. Refer to the back of your application/contract for specific information regarding canceling your contract.

E-Mail Accounts (Residents)

Residents are required to regularly check their Roosevelt e-mail account. Information regarding upcoming deadlines, procedures, account, and general university news will be communicated. Residents will be held accountable for all information communicated through Roosevelt University e-mail. Visit mymymail.roosevelt.edu for more information.

Fitness Center

The Marvin Moss Student Center is located on the 4th floor of the HCC. Students will enjoy the use of free weights, cardiovascular equipment, assistance from a free personal trainer, game room, and a complete basketball court as they break away from their studies.

Floor Themes

Students may request (on their application or in writing) to reside on certain floors such as; graduate, all female, intensive study, upper-class performance or general. Every effort will be made to honor requests.

Forms

Forms can be downloaded and sent to the Office of Residence Life.

Identification Cards

Roosevelt University identification cards serve as a resident’s HCC and Dining Service card. Each semester, cards must contain a valid HCC sticker that can be obtained at the Office of Residence Life. After 9:00 pm, residents will be required to show their valid Id to the security before gaining access to the HCC. Lost or stolen cards can be replaced for a fee at the Registrar ’s Office and both Residence Life and Dining Services should be contacted immediately.

Insurance

Students residing in the HCC are required to carry and present proof of insurance upon checking in. Roosevelt University insurance, provided by the Chickering Group, may be purchased by students. Please contact the Residence Life for more information and to pick up an Enrollment Form.

Keys

Residents are issued room keys and bathroom keys (for females only) when they check-in. Residence Life should be notified immediately of lost or stolen keys so that additional keys and /or a room recore may be issued. (Fees may be assessed for new keys and recores)

Laundry

For your convenience, the Residence Hall has a laundry room equipped with coin operated washers and dryers. It is located in the basement of the HCC and can be opened with your room key. These facilities are provided by an outside contractor to the University. In the event of equipment malfunction, please contact the Office Residence Life or RA on duty to report the machines which are malfunctioning as well as to request a refund.

Mailboxes

Mailboxes are available to residents. To have one issued, obtain a form from the Office of Residence Life and take it to the Mail Room located in the main lobby of the Auditorium Building. Your personal mailbox is located on the main floor of the Herman Crown Center (HCC).

No Medical/Health Center

Roosevelt University does not have a medical or health center. Students are strongly encouraged to locate a physician prior to or immediately after checking-in to their room. The Office of Residence Life can assist students in this process.

Non-Roosevelt Resident

Complete room and board payment for non-Roosevelt students will need to be made prior to or at check-in. Payment can be sent to the Office of Student Accounts or the Office of Residence Life.

Pre-Payments

A $500 pre-payment is required with the housing application/contract. Students have until May 1 to cancel their housing application/contract for the upcoming academic year without penalty. Students who are starting their first semester at Roosevelt in the spring have until October 1 to cancel their applications/contracts. Cancellations must be in writing and sent to the Office of Residence Life.

Students returning to the residence halls in the upcoming academic year are required to submit a new application/contract along with a $500 pre-payment.

Pre-payments will be credited to the student’s spring housing charges.

RA Employment

The RA Selection Process is conducted in February for the next academic year. Periodically a position becomes available during the year. In this case, it may be announced and posted throughout the campus. If you're interested in a position, talk to your RA and watch for posted announcements.

Vending Machines

Vending machines are located in the HCC lobby directly outside the SPA (Snack Preparation Area) and on several floors in the Auditorium.

Please report any malfunctions to the Dining Center or by calling the numbers located on the machines.
