In addition to anxiously awaiting a grade, students want to know as soon as possible who their roommate will be and what room they are assigned. Let’s help you out by answering some of the frequently asked questions that come our way.
| Can I go into RU Access and make changes to my contract after I submit it? |
No. You will need to call our office at (312) 341-2005. |
| Why are apartments/bedrooms in ROW so different from one another? |
ROW is located in Fornelli Hall which is located in the historic Pittsfield Building. Renovation in a historic building is quite different than building from ground up. |

| When are room assignments sent? |
Housing assignments will be emailed to students in July. |
| Can I request a different room/roommate even after I receive my housing assignment? |
No. Once assignments have been sent we will not consider changes until three weeks after classes begin. |
| How are assignments sent? |
Assignments are sent via MyMail. |
| Will I automatically get the room, room type, building, and/or roommate that I requested? |
No but we do our best to accommodate all requests. |
| If I do not get my requests that I put on my contract can I cancel and get a refund? |
No. It is important to remember that requests are not guaranteed to be granted. Applying by May 1 gives us the best chance to honor students' requests. |
| Can I request a specific room type, room number, floor, or building? |
No, however, returning students can sign up for their room during the Re-Application Process from April 1-3. |
| Why did I not get my requested room/roommate? |
Any one of these might be the reason that we were not able to accommodate your request.
- Your roommate did not apply and/or submit a $500 pre-payment
- Your roommate did not request to live with you
- Your roommate canceled his/her housing contract
- Your roommate applied after rooms had been assigned and I was not able to make any changes
- Your roommate requested a specific type of room (like studio or private) and based on when his/her application & pre-payment was received, we were not able to accommodate him/her in the specific room/room type
- Your roommate (if a current RU student) did not participate in Room Request Days and was assigned in order his/her application & pre-payment was received
- Your roommate (if current RU student) did not register for fall classes or full time status

| Roommate FAQs |
| Can I request a specific roommate? |
Yes! You can do so on your housing contract and your roommate needs to request you on their contract. |
| Can I request a non-RU student as my roommate? |
No. We only house RU students with other RU students. |
| How do you assign roommates? |
We use the lifestyle preferences on your contract to assign roommates. |
| Do you use Facebook or other electronic means assign roommates? |
No, nor do we make changes based on what students put on their electronic pages. We encourage you to make contact with your roommate. |
| What if I contact my roommate before I move in and we do not get along? |
Room changes are not made after assignments have been sent but will be considered two to three weeks after the semester begins. |
| What if my roommate has a Facebook/Myspace.. page that I do not agree with? |
