CTA-U-Pass -  Information & Distribution Dates

Roosevelt University has contracted with the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) to provide affordable public transportation to full-time students at the Chicago Campus through the CTA U-Pass program. All degree seeking, Chicago Campus students carrying full-time course loads will be automatically charged a mandatory, non-refundable fee on their student account for a U-Pass. The fee is $97.00.

Full time status for CTA U-Pass program is defined as:

 12 - credit hours for undergraduates
  9 - credit hours for graduate students
  6 - credit hours for doctoral students

Incomplete courses, external study courses from previous terms, classes at other universities and courses not officially listed on the current term registration cannot be used to determine full-time status.

The U-Pass provides full-time students with unlimited rides on all CTA trains and busses beginning five days before classes start and until five days after finals end during the Fall and Spring semesters.  Please consult the University academic calendar for specific dates.

This program is not offered during the summer semester. The U-Pass has the student’s photo and name on the card and is non-transferable.

Part-time students are not eligible for the program under the terms of the contract and may not purchase or receive a U-Pass.


The U-Pass fee cannot be waived for full-time students. Students who receive a U-Pass and drop below full-time status will have their passes deactivated without refund.

Summer - U-Pass is not offered during the Summer semesters

If you do not pick up your pass at the scheduled time, you may have to wait up to 10 business days to receive your pass.

Summary of Important Facts:

• U-Pass offers full-time, degree-seeking, Roosevelt University Chicago Campus students unlimited rides on any CTA bus or train during the fall and spring semesters.  U-Pass is not offered in the summer.
• U-Pass replaces cash for all CTA fares - no cash is needed.
• U-Pass does not require a transfer or surcharge.
• U-Pass is NOT valid for travel on PACE suburban buses or Metra commuter trains.
• U-Pass is for full-time students only. The cards of students who change to part-time status will be deactivated.
• U-Pass is also valid for CTA Para transit Special Services (for those qualified through the RTA) until the printed expiration date.
