GPA Calculation, Plus and Minus Grades, Quality Points Values & Grades Preceded by an Asterisk (*)

  • Starting Fall 2008 semester, Roosevelt University has assigned quality point values to plus and minus grades.  They are used in the calculation of the GPA, and academic standing.

  • There are also new grades in use: grades preceded by an asterisk (*).  They are issued for the courses below a 100 level (for example ENG 099 or MATH 099). They are excluded from earned hours and the calculation of the GPA.  They are included only in "Attempted Hours".

  • Multiply the point value assigned to the grade by the number of semester hours for that course.  For example, an A in a three credit hr course equals 12 quality points, a B in the same course, 9 quality points, etc.

  • Compute the total number of credit hours attempted including failed courses.  No points are assigned to an F, but the credit hours of a failed course are counted in computing the GPA.  Grades of a W, P, I, and IP do not affect the GPA, nor does the CR in transfer credits.

  • To calculate your GPA, divide the total number of quality points by the total number of attempted hours.
