Real Estate Programs and Course Information Master of Business Administration At Roosevelt University we believe we are offering the most innovative MBA in the Chicago area. Roosevelt's MBA represents a complete rethinking of what we teach and how we teach. The focus of the learning process is the shared responsibility of the student and instructor. Our classes are small, the contact personal. We stress teamwork and group projects. We expect each student to contribute to the education of his or her colleagues, believing that adult learners have considerable expertise to share with classmates. To earn an MBA from Roosevelt University you must successfully complete 37 semester hours. Typically this translates to 13 courses. Students take a one-hour orientation course, eight core courses supplemented by three courses in their area of concentration and one elective.
Master of Science in Real Estate The Master of Science in Real Estate (MSRE) program is designed to serve students seeking either to enter or enhance their careers in the Real Estate Profession. The courses in the degree program will provide the knowledge necessary for a person to enter the profession of Real Estate as a developer, manager or researcher. This program is unique in that it will be the first of its kind that is housed in the College of Business. The courses that have been selected for the program will develop professionals in real estate who will not just be able to manage and broker real estate, but they will be able to provide guidance for future planning and development in their communities. To earn a Master of Science in Real Estate from Roosevelt University you must successfully complete 31 semester hours. Typically this translates to 11 courses. Students take a one-hour orientation course, five core courses supplemented by five elective courses. Existing Real Estate Courses REES 401 Real Estate Process: An introductory course focusing on how metropolitan real estate markets work. The course includes the major techniques used to analyze these markets, cash flow models, and taxation issues. Prerequisite: ACCT 405 or equivalent. REES 411 Real Estate Finance and Investment: Provides a broad prospective on real estate financing and investment issues. Basic project evaluation, financing strategies and capital market issues related to real estate are covered. Prerequisite: FIN 408 or equivalent REES 421 Real Estate Law: Major legal concepts pertaining to acquisition, use, management, and transfer of real estate are examined. Particular attention is paid to the legal issues relating to property rights, contracts, and public controls. REES 431 Real Estate Management & Marketing: Explores the issues of property management in order to satisfy the needs of tenants. Issues in marketing property are also discussed. REES 441 Real Estate Design & Feasibility: Students are introduced to three cases studies (usually including office, residential & retail projects) of recently developed or under construction projects in downtown Chicago in an effort to understand how architects and developers work together to create financially feasible projects. REES 451 Public/Private Development: students are introduced to the financial and political framework of Public/Private development in the United States, focusing also in the Chicago area. The course reviews a significant range of public incentives such as tax credits, tax increment financing, public bonding and brownfield programs. REES 481 Real Estate Development: Examines various types of development, such as residential, retail, industrial, and office. The major participants' roles, and how they relate to each other, are explored in detail. Guest speakers and case studies are used extensively. Prerequisite: REES 411 and REES 421 REES 461 Project Management and Construction: This class will emphasize the principals and practice of good project management, but will focus specifically on the property construction, development and management process.
