Appointment of Pasquinelli Family Distinguished

Chair in Real Estate

I am pleased to announce the recent appointment of Sofia V. Dermisi as the Pasquinelli Family Distinguished Chair in Real Estate.

Sofia V. Dermisi

In recognition of her exceptional scholarship, teaching and service to Roosevelt’s Chicago School of Real Estate, Sofia Dermisi was selected as the first Pasquinelli Family Distinguished Chair in Real Estate. The chair is named in honor of Roosevelt Trustee Anthony Pasquinelli and his family.

Currently associate professor of real estate, Sofia joined Roosevelt in 2003 and has won the Outstanding Scholarship Award presented by the Walter E. Heller College of Business Administration three times. During this academic year alone, she published six research papers on real estate issues, co-authoring four in peer-reviewed journals. This year she received the University’s Excellence in Teaching Award, after being nominated by her students. She also served as the Alyce DeCosta Professor in 2005-06.


She received both doctoral and master’s degrees in design studies from Harvard University, focusing on real estate and was a visiting scholar there in 2006. Her undergraduate degree is from the University of Thessaly in Volos, Greece.

  • Dr. Sofia V. Dermisi is internationally known for her research on terrorism/life safety/disaster issues and their effect on office real estate markets
  • Her research was awarded substantial support from the prestigious National Science Foundation
  • She is the recipient of multiple awards among which is from NAIOP and BOMA/International
  • She has authored 20 academic research papers published in peer reviewed journals
  • She is the editor of the Real Estate Information Technology section of the Journal of Real Estate Literature
