Joseph Chan Biography Joseph Chan, is the interim dean of the Walter E. Heller College of Business Administration and associate professor of Information Systems at Roosevelt University. Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Chan served as the Chair of the Department of Marketing and Information Systems at Roosevelt University. Before joining Roosevelt University in 2002, Dr. Chan held senior administrative positions with a number of corporations. From 2000-2002, he was the chief executive officer for Saber Consulting. From 1987-2000, Dr. Chan worked for Oracle Corporation in a variety of positions including vice president of e-Business Solutions and Services, in which he led a team of 120 people to create and deploy business-to-business solutions, and vice president of Core Technology Services, in which he had profit and loss responsibility for $80 million in revenue and managed a group of more than 400 consultants. Prior to these appointments, he held various management positions as senior practice director for Oracle’s Custom Development Group in the Central U.S. and as director and manager of consulting services. Dr. Chan also worked at Walker Interactive Systems as vice president of Professional Services and at SmartStar Corporation as vice president of Professional Services. From 1983-1987, he was an instructor and assistant professor of Computer Science in the Department of Computer Science, Telecommunications and Information Systems at DePaul University. An award-winning teacher, researcher and author, Dr. Chan received the Outstanding Research Award and the Chicago Professorship award from the Heller College of Business at Roosevelt University, and the Best Author awards from the Journal of American Academy of Business. Dr. Chan’s research interests include enterprise modeling, enterprise information systems, data warehousing, business intelligence, e-business, knowledge-based systems, IT strategy and planning. He has published over twenty articles in professional journals and proceedings as well as a study guide. Dr. Chan has consulted extensively in enterprise information management and is the principal author of various proprietary reports for over twenty businesses and government agencies. Dr. Chan serves on the editorial review board for the Communications of the International Information Management Association. He is also the vice president of communications for the International Information Management Association. Dr. Chan holds a fifth degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and is a certified master instructor of Tae Kwon Do. Chan earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Haverford College and master’s and Ph.D. degrees in mathematics from the Department of Mathematics, Statistics, & Computer Science at the University of Illinois, Chicago. He is a resident of Burr Ridge, Ill. |
