Chicago Tribune Columnist to Join Roosevelt
Charles M. Madigan, Chicago Tribune senior correspondent, editor and columnist, will join Roosevelt University on August 15 as Presidential Writer in Residence.
Madigan is 2005 honors graduate of Roosevelt with a Bachelor of General Studies degree. Joining colleagues in Roosevelt’s Department of Communication, he will teach four writing courses a year to undergraduate and graduate students and create the Chicago Writing Institute at Roosevelt, a summer writing program. He also will teach Roosevelt students to write on public policy issues, including reporting on political campaigns and other election issues. More information >>
Toll Free Number for Financial Aid
The Office of Financial Aid now has a new toll free number: 866-421-0935. The number offers the option of selecting the office in Chicago or Schaumburg.
Roosevelt Receives $250,000 Upward Bound Grant
The US Department of Education has awarded Roosevelt $250,000 to fund an Upward Bound project. Roosevelt will prepare 50 students at Wendell Phillips Academy in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood for postsecondary education and success in college. The students will be from low income families and most would be the first members of their families to attend college. More information >>
Summer Camps at Roosevelt
Do you know middle school or high school students looking for something to do this summer? Two unique programs will be hosted by Roosevelt:
RU Glamorous-CSI camp for girls takes place July 23-27 at the Schaumburg Campus.
The purpose of the camp is to entice and encourage middle school girls to engage themselves in scientific, mathematical and technological fields of study. More information >>
HOPERA is a program for youth ages 14-18 that will be held at the Chicago Campus from August 6-17. The program specializes in fusing classical and Hip Hop music, and is especially designed for young aspiring musical artists interested in finding a positive outlet for self-expression while getting exposure to both classical and urban music. Schaumburg Scholarship Golf Outing

Roosevelt’s Future Community Scholars visited with members of Roosevelt’s Board of Trustees and Community Advisory Board (CAB) on June 4 just before rain washed away the University’s 14th Annual Scholarship Benefit Golf Outing in Arlington Heights. Eight Schaumburg students received scholarships of up to $5,000 for tuition and books. In the center are board Chair Jim Mitchell, board member Bob Wieseneck and CAB member Marty Roth.
Student Presents Gift to Mayor

Roosevelt student Willis Wu presented Chicago Mayor Richard Daley with pins from the 2008 Beijing Olympics during a ceremony at City Hall on May 23. Paul Green, the Arthur Rubloff Professor of Policy Studies, made arrangements with the Office of the Mayor for 21 Chinese students from Beijing Municipal Bureau of Statistics to attend a City Council meeting and meet with the mayor. Wu is the leader of the Chinese group. The students are studying for a Master of Public Administration degree.
