Did You Know? Internships are designed to provide career related work experiences concurrent or alternating with academic coursework. Students can work in a field related to their major while going to school. The purpose of this experience is to provide direction and enrichment to their education, and to enhance their value as an employee upon graduation.

April 2008 Around Campus Commencement is May 16 New Dean of the College of Business Administration Dr. Terri L. Friel has been appointed dean of the University’s Walter E. Heller College of Business Administration and named the Walter E. Heller and Alyce DeCosta Professor of Management, effective July 1, 2008. Since 2000, Friel has been at the Butler University College of Business Administration in Indianapolis where she currently is associate dean of administration and associate professor of Operations Management. Exhibit on Campus Fifty pictures of the late Mayor Harold Washington, Roosevelt class of '49, are on display in the Gage Gallery, 18 S. Michigan Ave., through June 27. The photos were taken by Antonio Dickey and Marc PoKempner. Dickey was Washington’s official Chicago City Hall photographer and PoKempner covered Washington for top national publications. More information >> Summer Programs at Roosevelt Do you know a future Roosevelt student who might like to attend a summer program at the university? If so, please share the news about these unique summer opportunities: Summer Stage! Camp: Roosevelt and the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University will be hosting Summer Stage! on August 11-15. This is a one-week performing arts day camp for children ages 9-13 who love to perform. Camp takes place at the Schaumburg Campus from 9:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. daily. Campers will learn music, dance and acting; the camp will culminate in a performance for family and friends. Tuition for the week is $200. RU Glamorous - CSI: Girls Learning About Math, Outstanding Research and Organizing Unique Solutions using Computers, Science and Investigation: This summer camp will focus on the science of skin. Applicants must be girls entering seventh through ninth grade during the 2008-09 academic year. Two sessions are offered: July 21-25 and July 28-August 1 at the Schaumburg Campus. Roosevelt Snapshots Carol Moseley Braun Visits Campus
Students from two student organizations, RU Prime and the Black Student Union, hosted a lecture discussion titled "Women in Politics: An Evening with Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun" on April 17. Ambassador Braun spoke on women in politics, the Democratic presidential candidates, her role as United States ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa, the importance of Biodynamic agriculture and the use of organic foods. Roosevelt alum and Congresswoman Melissa Bean (D-8th) spoke to the New Deal Service Day participants at the Schaumburg Campus about the value of community volunteerism. Bean and her executive assistant, Donna Riley, volunteered at Friendship Village, assisting residents in creating memory books. Nearly 300 students, faculty, staff and alumni volunteered at both campuses during this annual event. Spring Break Service Project
A group of volunteers from the Roosevelt community traveled to South Dakota for the second time in two years over the recent spring break to provide assistance to residents living on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The group, which included Roosevelt students, completed a number of tasks including building bunk beds and renovating homes. The trip was organized by Katie Mason, a graduate student in the College of Education's community counseling program, and was led by Cindy Anderson, the College's assistant professor in special education. More than 1,000 students and alumni from Roosevelt and other universities filled the Auditorium Building recently for a Government Job and Internship Fair. Among the agencies attending were the Federal Air Marshall Service and the U. S. Department of State. Dates to Know
