Did You Know?

Roosevelt offers are free shuttle service from the CTA Blue Line-Rosemont Station to the Schaumburg Campus during the fall, spring and summer terms. Students can use the service for travel to and from the Schaumburg Campus (Chicago students can also use it for shopping at Woodfield Mall and IKEA, and Schaumburg students can use it to travel downtown to enjoy the city).  Click here for more information.

Roosevelt has a cell phone text-messaging service that will keep students informed in the event of a University emergency. Click here for information and to sign up.

Auditorium Theatre Camp Underway

The Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University is presenting the fourth year of a one-of-a-kind summer camp program, Hands Together, Heart to Art. This program is designed for children 7-14 years old who have experienced the death of one or both parents. More information >>

New Deans at the University

Dr. Holly Stadler and Dr. Terri Friel have started their new positions as deans at Roosevelt.  Dr. Stadler is the dean of the College of Education and she joins Roosevelt from Auburn University, while Dr. Friel, the dean of the Walter E. Heller College of Business Administration, was formerly at Butler University.

Roosevelt's annual Parent Day is Saturday, October 11 at the Chicago Campus.  More information about the schedule of events and registration will be available in late August.

Fulbright Scholar on Roosevelt Faculty
Heather Dalmage, professor of sociology at Roosevelt and an expert on multiracial issues in the United States, has been awarded a scholarship from the U.S. Department of State’s Fulbright Program to study multiracial issues in South Africa in 2009.  More information >>

Summer Programs at Roosevelt

Do you know a future Roosevelt student who might like to attend a summer program at the university?  If so, please share the news about these unique summer opportunities:
Hopera: A three-week program fusing classical and hip hop music into a unique, new genre called Hopera will be offered over the summer at Roosevelt for high school students who are interested in creative and performing arts.  The program, which provides training in rapping, dancing, hip hop and poetry writing, acting and performing arts production.  More information >>

Summer Stage! Camp: Roosevelt and the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University will be hosting Summer Stage! on August 11-15. This is a one-week performing arts day camp for children ages 9-13 who love to perform.  Camp takes place at the Schaumburg Campus from 9:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. daily. Campers will learn music, dance and acting; the camp will culminate in a performance for family and friends. RU Glamorous - CSI: Girls Learning About Math, Outstanding Research and Organizing Unique Solutions using Computers, Science and Investigation: This summer camp will focus on the science of skin.  Applicants must be girls entering seventh through ninth grade during the 2008-09 academic year.  Two sessions are offered: July 21-25 and July 28-August 1 at the Schaumburg Campus.  The cost of the camp is $125 without lunch or $150 with lunch provided.  For more information contact Jocelyn Yarbrough at 847-619-8551, email jyarbrou@roosevelt.edu or visit www.roosevelt.edu/RUGLAM

New Basketball Court in Schaumburg

President Chuck Middleton takes the first shot on a new outdoor basketball court at the Schaumburg Campus. Located near McConnor Parkway, the court was built in response to a request by students for more recreation facilities.

Europe Day Celebration


Dr. Zvone Zigon, consul general of the Republic of Slovenia in Cleveland representing the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, welcomed guests to Roosevelt in May. Roosevelt hosted a celebration of Europe Day, which attracted 200 representatives from the consulates in Chicago. Students from the Chicago College of Performing Arts performed at the event.

Kindergarten Class "Adopts" Roosevelt

As a participant in the No Excuses University program, a kindergarten class at Lakeview School in Hoffman Estates "adopted" Roosevelt University. University officials visited the class, presented the students with Roosevelt t-shirts and talked to the students about what they want to do when they grow up. A long time education partner with Roosevelt, Lakeview currently employs 13 Roosevelt graduates.

Auditorium Stained Glass Windows

President Chuck Middleton unveiled two stained glass windows now on permanent display in the Auditorium building's Michigan Avenue lobby. Roosevelt staff were thanked for their skill and dedication that made this exhibition possible. The stained glass panel is from an Auditorium Theater skylight, and was created in 1889 by stained glass artists Healy and Millet, based on sketches from the architectural firm of Adler and Sullivan. Roosevelt On Parade

Roosevelt students, faculty and administrators participated in Chicago’s Gay Pride Parade on Sunday, June 28. Roosevelt also participated in the Fourth of July parade in Arlington Heights and will participate in Chicago's Bud Billiken Day parade on August 9 and Schaumburg's Septemberfest parade over the Labor Day weekend.
