New CCPA Website & Performance Calendar

The Chicago College of Performing Arts, one of five colleges at Roosevelt University, is pleased to announce the launch of their new website. The site includes the latest brochures for each program, a RSS feed to the news items and a link to the RU Itunes U page where sound files from CCPA's faculty and students will be available for download. The site is also fully accessible by the visually impaired and has real time calendar feature tied into the school's room scheduling database, providing accurate information on concerts, plays, and performances by CCPA students and faculty.  Click here to visit the new CCPA website.

Faculty-Led Study Abroad Opportunities

Roosevelt offers a variety of study abroad opportunities for students, one of which is the faculty-led international study program.  A faculty-led international study program is a RU course in which a short-term (7-21 days) international study trip is planned as an integral part of the course requirements.  Students must participate in the study trip and attend all class meetings before and after the trip.  Taking part in this kind of programs can enhance what students learn in the classroom.  It also builds more interpersonal relationships with faculty and classmates.  Most importantly, it stimulates their long-lasting interest in other cultures, people and languages.  During the spring 2009 semester, there are three faculty-led international programs taking RU faculty and students to the UK and China.  Please encourage your students to contact Ms. Rubee Fuller, Director of International Programs, at rfuller@roosevelt.edu or 312-341-2128 to receive program and application information.

Academic Resources for Students

Final exams and the end of the semester are quickly approaching.  If your student needs assistance with a paper, exam or project, refer him or her to these helpful resources:

Students should also stay in contact with their instructors and seek assistance during office hours.

RU "Alma Mater"

Do you know Roosevelt's "Alma Mater?"  It was commissioned for President Middleton's installation in 2003.  Instructor Jacquelyn Strum won a contest to compose the lyrics and CCPA Professor Stacy Garrop composed the music. Click here for the lyrics and a video/song file.

Roosevelt Snapshots

Greetings from Franklin Roosevelt

Over 3,000 visitors to the Schaumburg Business Association’s Annual Expo on Oct. 29 were pleasantly surprised to be greeted at the Roosevelt University booth by FDR himself (living history impersonator R.J. Lindsey) who chatted with visitors about politics and the current economic situation.

Guest Speaker on Campus

Ralph Martire from Center for Tax and Budget Accountability describes the fiscal conditions in the state of Illinois and Cook County during Roosevelt’s annual Herb and Eileen Franks Seminar on Politics held in Ganz Hall. His talk on Nov. 12 was titled "Do the Numbers Add Up?" Professor Paul Green, director of the School of Politics, listened to Martire’s talk and later presented his analysis of the 2008 election.

Students Present Science Research Projects

Roosevelt University science students presented their research projects at the 19th Annual Argonne Undergraduate Symposium on Nov. 7. From left to right, are chemistry students Gregg Griffin and Tracy Pietrucha; and biiology students Dana Mastandrea, Matthew Amidon and Brett Calka. Faculty research supervisors were Associate Professor of Chemistry Kristen Leckrone, Assistant Professor of Biology Robert Seiser and Assistant Professor of Biology Kelly Wentz-Hunter.

Painting the Schaumburg Campus Pink

Schaumburg SPEED Board members Tito Clemente and Valerie Colletti participated in the "Help Paint The Campus Pink" event in Schaumburg on Oct. 22 to demonstrate support of breast cancer awareness. Students, faculty and staff wore pink to show unity in the fight against breast cancer. Information, a raffle, pink ribbons and a variety of pink food, including pink cotton candy, were available.
