March 2009 Around Campus You're Invited to a Night in the City! Roosevelt parents are cordially invited to the Chicago College of Performing Arts annual Vivid concert on Monday, April 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium Theatre. The concert will feature works by Leonard Burnstein and Gustav Mahler. Tickets are free for RU parents (with advance reservation) and you're invited to a reception following the performance. Service Days Roosevelt's annual community service event offers Roosevelt University students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends the opportunity to work together helping others at sites in Chicago and Schaumburg. Financial Aid Information Sessions President Obama has announced an ambitious goal for America to lead the world with the percentage of its citizens who have earned college degrees by the year 2020. In order to help students make progress on attaining this goal, Federal Financial Aid programs have been expanded exponentially. In light of these and other changes in funding in higher education, Roosevelt University is actively working to share information with our students which will help them access all of these funds when they become available next fall. A Roosevelt University financial aid information session designed to help you plan for the 2009-10 academic year is the first step in that process. At the information session, our financial aid counselors will describe recent actions taken by the federal government to help make college more affordable and they’ll explain the financial aid process, including how to apply for all of the federal, state, and Roosevelt aid you are entitled to receive. All continuing RU students are required to complete the financial aid application process by April 1, 2009. Students who receive any Roosevelt scholarships and/or grants are required to meet this deadline as a condition of receiving their awards in 2009-10. Encourage your student to make an appointment with an academic advisor and register as soon as possible to ensure the best selection of classes. Students can now apply for 2009-10 residence hall housing at the Chicago Campus. Please visit the Office of Residence Life website at www.roosevelt.edu/reslife for more information. The application/contract is online and students complete it via RU Access. The priority deadline of apply for housing and submit the $500 pre-payment is May 1. Current students who complete the application/contract, submit the $500 pre-payment, and register full-time for fall classes by March 31 can request a room during Room Request Days on April 1-3.
Roosevelt Snapshots Leadership Summit 2009
The Chicago Center for Student Involvement sponsored the annual Leadership Summit on Feb. 20-22 at Camp McLean in Burlington, WI. The Summit is a weekend, overnight retreat focused on topics including leadership development, social justice, and how to be better agents of positive, social change. Activities consist of large and small group discussions, concurrent and interactive workshops, and plenty of team-building and self-reflection. Montesquieu Forum at Roosevelt
Roosevelt University's Montesquieu Forum (in partnership with the Jack Miller Center and the University of Chicago) hosted a lecture by Robert T. Gannett, scholar and community organizer, entitled "Why Tocqueville's Democracy in America?" on March 5 . Dr. Gannett is the author of the prize-winning book, Tocqueville Unveiled. The lecture opened a two-day conference on Tocqueville and the Frontiers of Democracy, occasioned by the 150th anniversary of Tocqueville's death. Roosevelt University’s Montesquieu Forum advances education by offering interdisciplinary programs—seminars, workshops, speaker series, conferences and public events—that deepen students’ study of ideas in the context of the broad Western tradition, in particular in relation to the American Founding. The Jack Miller Center is providing financial and program resources to support the Montesquieu Forum.
