Graduate Profiles- Be'Trice Turner '07
More on Be'Trice... Because Be’Trice was already working at a law firm at the time of graduation, she was able to transition into a new position, after receiving her Paralegal Certificate, as a Docket Manager/Overflow Paralegal, where her duties include: electronic court filings in state and federal court; updating attorneys' court schedule in a litigation calendaring system; document production; and legal research (on an as-needed basis). When asked what she would tell someone thinking about enrolling in the Paralegal Studies Program, and embarking on a career as a Paralegal/Legal Assistant, Be’Trice responded, “It would be extremely helpful if they had an idea or are currently working within a lawyer cultured environment. In this industry you deal with a variety of personalities and you need to have ‘thick skin’…" ..."you can’t take things personally …” Also, when asked what she enjoys most about working as a Docket Manager/Overflow Paralegal at her current firm, Be’Trice shared, “It’s something different everyday and I enjoy being kept busy.." “...working in an attorney environment has its own culture, and while there are some similarities to working in a corporation, being in this environment can be a little more fast-paced than a corporate environment.” Be’Trice is still enjoying getting acclimated into her new position and plans to take advantage of the many advancement opportunities this (Paralegal) profession offers, sometime in the future. When she’s not working, Be'Trice she enjoys Community Theater and Play writing.
