Graduate Profiles
Paul Rutherford received his B.A. from Roosevelt University (Chicago) in 2003. He decided to attend the Paralegal Studies Program based on recommendations from friends who were attorneys and the high ratings from other sources. Paul graduated from the Paralegal Studies Program in 2003, and when asked if he had any special memories from his experiences in the program, he responded, “I attended night classes and one thing that still makes me laugh: my study group and I cramming for an exam while eating chili from Corner Bakery. We called it the ‘Lucky Chili’ because it got us through the exam with a passing grade!” Paul states, in reference to one of his instructors in the program, Judge Lewis Nixon (a Circuit Court Judge), “Even after all these years, he still ask how things are going and always offers his help. Students will not find better professors than those who teach at Roosevelt University!”
Be’Trice Turner received her B.A. from Columbia College (Chicago) in May 2006. She decided to attend Roosevelt’s Paralegal Studies Program while working in a law firm and having the desire to add another skill set to what she acquired in the firm. Be’Trice graduated from Roosevelt’s Paralegal Studies Program in December 2007 and when asked if she had any special memories from her experiences in the Paralegal Studies Program, her response was “… I enjoyed most of my time during the program…" "...I learned so much.” She, also stated, “I think Roosevelt has an excellent (Paralegal Studies) program with a lot to offer its students, but students have to be motivated to utilize all the tools Roosevelt offers and the tools they have within themselves as well. Putting these (tools) together will help any student who enters this program truly succeed!”
Chuck Winans received his B.A. from the State University of New York (New Paltz, NY) in 1979. He decided to attend the Paralegal Studies Program at Roosevelt after considerable thought and nearly 30 years working in the not-for-profit Performing Arts field; he wanted to change careers. Chuck graduated from the Paralegal Studies Program in June 2007, and when asked about any special memories from the program, he shared a few: “My utter frustration with trying to learn the rudiments of legal research from scratch in the library, and my elation when I finally ‘got it’ enough to ace both my legal writing and legal research classes!” Also, “The overall intensity of trying to complete all classes in only 4½ months, determined to ace everything”. Lastly, “The ‘nose-to-the-grindstone attitude’ I had to display from within, not only allowed me to graduate with honors, but showed me, beyond question, that I could absolutely work in the legal field!”
