2008 Campus Vote Initiative and ILCC

As the next generation of leaders and citizens, young people are a powerful force in today's political scene. Democracy is a two way street: today's youth has the responsibility to educate themselves and participate in our democracy; and also has the right to be heard and respected by elected officials and candidates.  Campus Compact has launched the 2008 Campus Vote Initiative to encourage higher education institutions to help educate and empower students and to make the process of staying engaged easier throughout the sometimes confusing election season. At Illinois Campus Compact (ILCC), we are committed to ensuring that the youth vote is strong and present through voter education and the empowering of young people to encourage their peers to vote. The ENGAGE conference is a part of this mission. The goal of the conference is to provide the tools necessary to get college students from Illinois and across the Midwest to register to vote, cast an educated vote, and then remain engaged in the democratic process after the November election--holding the elected officials at all levels of government accountable. Attendees will receive conference materials that include a flash drive with information, tools and resources to be fully engaged in the election process.
