Tamar Frolichstein-Appel, MEd
Career Counselor

Tamar joined the OCS staff in September of 2006 as a career counselor.  She recently completed a MEd in Community Counseling from Loyola University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor.  As part of her studies, Tamar did research on University Career Service Websites and did a practicum as a career counselor at Jewish Vocational Services in Skokie, IL.  Tamar is a career changer with a more than 10 years experience in community development, public policy and social change work.  She has an undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Women’s Studies and a Masters Degree in Public Policy Studies from the University of Chicago. Tamar enjoys working with the students and alumni of Roosevelt University as they advance on their own unique and meaningful career paths.  Along with career counseling, she manages the RU Connections Mentor Program and works with the OCS staff to develop and present career development workshops and programs.

Michael Fung, MA
Career Counselor

Michael received his BA from the University of Notre Dame with a major in History and a minor in Theology and completed his MA at New York University in Mental Health Counseling.  He has a diverse background in the field of counseling, including work as a personal counselor at Hunter College in New York, as a researcher studying dual diagnosis in the homeless population, as a counselor for women and children suffering from domestic abuse, and also as a career counselor.  He has also been fortunate to have the opportunity to travel for education and work, including time spent in France, Spain, and Nicaragua where he has been able to learn much about different cultures and different perspectives.

Virginia Sabbak, MA

Career Counselor

Virginia joined the OCS staff in July 2008 as a Career Counselor at the Schaumburg campus. Virginia received her Master of Arts in School Counseling from Roosevelt University, holds her Illinois State School Counseling Certificate and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. Virginia worked with abandoned and abused children in New York City after receiving her Bachelor of Arts from SUNY Brockport where she majored in Psychology. Virginia admits her favorite position, other than working in the Office of Career Services, was her position as Career Specialist at Elgin High School. Her reason for this is that she enjoys working with a diverse student population supporting them in discovering academic and career interests and paths. At Roosevelt she is involved in implementing and facilitating discussions, workshops, career fairs and internship programs for students and alumni.

Katie Mason, MA

Career Counselor

Katie Mason is the newest addition to the career counseling staff with the OCS.  She recently graduated with her MA in Community Counseling from Roosevelt and has a BA in Psychology from The University of Iowa.  Her experience is varied.  Most recently, she worked with victims of domestic violence as a personal counselor and also provided case management services including job search and job readiness skills.  Prior to graduate school she began her career as a recruiter for a staffing firm and spent four years at The Cara Program, a job training program for individuals at-risk for becoming homeless, where she developed employment partner relationships and found employment for program participants. Katie thoroughly enjoys developing relationships and working with students and alumni to help them discover their career passion.

Dana Fogarty, MEd

Community Engagement Coordinator

Dana Fogarty is the Illinois Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA at Roosevelt University. She recently graduated with her Master of Education in Higher Education Administration and Student Personnel from Kent State University and has a BS in Politics and Government from Illinois State University.  Her Primary role here at Roosevelt is as the Community Engagement Coordinator, where she helps students, staff and faculty to become more aware of issues and events related to service and volunteerism. This year Dana will launch Roosevelt University’s first ever Alternative Break Immersion Trip over Spring break.  Dana enjoys guiding students, faculty and staff on the path to becoming more active citizens in the Roosevelt community and the world in the fight against poverty and all other injustices.
