Mission Statement
Mansfield Institute for Social Justice

The Institute for Social Justice, created in 1999 through a generous gift from the Mansfield Foundation, gives Roosevelt University a unique opportunity to develop an integrated program of curriculum, research, and outreach focused on social justice issues.

With the broad aim of increasing understanding of justice in human relations the Institute seeks to:

  • create an interdisciplinary curriculum that provides students with conceptual and evaluative tools for examining social injustices
  • encourage research, writing, and activism around social justice issues
  • focus public attention on issues of injustice in society

To this end, the Institute will develop an educational and lecture program in social justice studies, will sponsor research projects, and will reach into the community.
