Friends of Blackstone Branch Library Presents Voices From Home: Local Authors Speak An Evening With Heather M. Dalmage Thursday, May 18, 2006 Author Heather M. Dalmage is the next guest in our series “Voices From Home: Local Authors Speak”. Ms. Dalmage will read and discuss excerpts from her book, Tripping on the Color Line: Black-White Multiracial Families in a Racially Divided World (Rutgers University Press, 2000). The book takes a look inside the lives of multiracial families in America. Ms. Dalmage examines relationships between family members and how these families relate to the outside world. She gives us insight into an individual’s decision to cross color lines and forge an “other” racial reality in our society. Ms. Dalmage is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Roosevelt University. She serves as Director of the Mansfield Institute for Social Justice there. She has written on a broad range of topics including interracial couples and adoption, housing discrimination, and cultural capital. Join us for this informative reading and discussion. This is the third in a series of author events, “Voices From Home: Local Authors Speak” presented by Friends of Blackstone Branch Library. The series features authors from the Hyde Park community. Friends of the Blackstone Library is a community group dedicated to supporting the Blackstone Branch Library through advocacy and volunteerism. |
