A great depth of study within in each program

As one of the leading liberal arts colleges, Roosevelt University assures students that they will receive a well-rounded education with extensive instruction in their specific field of interest. This ensures graduates from liberal arts colleges have an overall knowledge of many fields of study while specializing in others. These areas include:

Writing. Unlike other colleges, each student at Roosevelt must demonstrate his/her ability to write in a clear, well-organized, and grammatically correct manner before graduating.

Great Ideas. Students in Great Ideas read and interpret selections of classic writings. This gives them the depth of knowledge needed by graduates of top colleges.

Roosevelt Signature Course. As one of Chicago's top schools, Roosevelt University insists that all students must take this course, which emphasizes metropolitanism and cultural diversity.

Writing Social Justice in the Academy. Students in LIBS 201: Writing Social Justice in the Academy practice the advanced reading and writing skills needed as undergraduate majors. They explore contemporary, discipline-specific social justice issues.

Mathematics. All students must complete at least 3 semester hours of mathematics at the level of Math 110 ("Introduction to Contemporary Mathematics") or above. Students in many fields will need to fulfill this requirement early in their academic careers.

Natural Sciences. All students must complete at least two courses in the natural sciences, at least one of which is a four or more credit course including substantial hands-on laboratory or field experience. One course must be in the biological sciences and one course in the physical sciences.

Humanities and Social Sciences. All students will take 3 social science and 3 humanities courses. The Social Science areas of study include: African American Studies, Anthropology, Economics, History, Journalism, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Public Administration, Sociology, and Women's Studies. The Humanities include African American Studies, Art History, English, History, Languages, Music, Philosophy, Theatre, Speech, and Women's Studies.

Multicultural Studies. At least one course in either the Social Sciences or the Humanities must focus on non-Western cultures. This requirement may also be fulfilled with a course dealing directly with North American descendants of persons from these world regions as well as indigenous peoples of North America.

A history of breadth and depth in education

As Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "I think if [Roosevelt University] can send out people who are trained to a sense of . . . personal responsibility, for what happens in their community, in their environment, then I think this College will have done a tremendous work for democracy at home and for a solution to the great world problems that we have . . . today."
