Emergency Text Messaging Service Signup
RU Emergency Text Messaging Service | ITS

Roosevelt University has implemented a cell phone text-messaging service that will help you keep informed in the event of a University emergency. This service is available to all students, faculty and staff. For more information about this service see the Text Messaging FAQ page.

In order to make use of this service you must first sign up using the form below. Note that you must have your cell phone with you to complete the registration process. Your submission of this form signifies your consent to receive emergency text messages from the University.

Signup instructions:

  1. Make sure you have your cell phone with you and that it's turned on when you submit this form because you will need it to complete the process.

  2. Enter into the Username field your choice of a username (it can be the same as your RU email ID but that's not required). Also enter your first and last name and the password that you want to use to access your account. Your username, along with your selected password, will give you access to the e2Campus web site to modify your subscriptions and cell phone numbers.

  3. In the Mobile Phone (TXT) field enter your complete 10-digit cell phone number and select your carrier from the drop-down list. Both of these settings must be correct in order for you to receive text messages.

  4. Subscribe to one or more services in the Groups section. In order to receive emergency messages you must select at least one group. All users are subscribed by default to the All Roosevelt group, which is used to distribute essential emergency messages. You may also join one or both campus-specific groups to receive announcements that pertain only to those locations.

  5. Click the Agree to Terms of Service checkbox and then click the Create Account button. You will be presented with a view of your personal e2Campus administrative web page. Leave that page up -- don't browse to a different page or close your browser. In the center of that page, under the SMS (Text Messaging) heading, you'll see a red Unvalidated label and a display of your cell phone number. A few moments later you should receive a text message on your cell phone containing your 4-digit validation code. (Don't confuse this with the 5-digit number which appears in the From: line). Enter the 4-digit validation code into the appropriate box on your e2Campus web page and click Validate to complete the process.

Notes

In order to complete the validation process your cell phone must have SMS text messaging enabled. If you don't receive the validation message this may be the cause. Check with your provider for assistance.

If for any reason you are unable to complete the validation process at this stage you can do it later by logging back into your personal e2Campus account management web page (the same one that displayed in step 5 above). Point your browser to http://www.e2campus.com/my/roosevelt/ and log in using the username and password selected in step one above. Once you have logged in click the "Services" tab and follow the directions on that page to validate your phone number. If you have lost track of your validation code you can get a new one by clicking Resend Validation SMS. For detailed information on confirming your registration, see the membership confirmation user guide.

If you would like to add a second cell phone number to your account, you can do this from the Services section of your e2Campus administration page.

You can use the link at the bottom of the signup form to sign up to receive a copy of all emergency messages in the form of email only. This is a separate service, and is available to you even if you don't have a cell phone. After you have registered your phone for email notifications you can add the email service at any time by logging into the web site and following the instructions on the service page. From the service page you can also modify you cell phone and email registrations or add new ones.

Please report any problems to the RU Help Desk (312-341-4357, or online at http://www.roosevelt.edu/helpdesk).
