Study Abroad Application Process: Roosevelt students who want to study abroad for academic credits need to complete the Study Abroad Application Form (PDF, 123K) and Petition to Study Abroad for the following deadlines: April 1 for fall and summer study abroad and October 1 for spring study abroad. Please note some study abroad programs may have earlier application deadlines. You can also click here to download the Pre-Departure Study Abroad Guide (PDF, 534K).

Applications will be considered only when the following documents are completed in full and signed by the applicant: Petition to Study Abroad, Study Abroad Application, Liability forms and Student Travel Form. These accompanying documents can be retrieved from Office of International Programs.

Acceptance to a third party study abroad program does not constitute acceptance by Roosevelt. You must first complete this application process by the above mentioned deadlines in order to receive study abroad credits at Roosevelt. There is a Roosevelt non-refundable study abroad fee of $500 per term for non-exchange programs, unless the student is denied permission to study abroad. There is no $500 study abroad fee if students study abroad through Roosevelt’s exchange programs.

Roosevelt University offers several reciprocal exchange programs, and provides information and guidance on other national study abroad consortia. Roosevelt exchange programs currently include: University of Bamberg, University of Tubingen, University of Nottingham Trent, Royal Northern College of England, London Metropolitan University, University of Melbourne, Sibelius Academy and membership to institutions through ISEP (International Student Exchange Program).

Students who wish to earn academic credit applicable to their Roosevelt degree during study abroad experiences must contact the Office of International Programs (AUD 336) for procedural information, well in advance of planned study. Highlights of the necessary procedures include:

  • A completed Petition to Study Abroad and Liability form must be submitted prior to departure for study abroad.
  • Academic credits must be approved by the Office of the Registrar in advance.
  • Study abroad candidates must register at Roosevelt for the semester they plan study abroad.
  • Study abroad candidates must have completed a minimum of one full semester at Roosevelt before being eligible for study abroad.
  • Study abroad candidates must have at least a 2.5 cumulative Roosevelt grade average.
  • Study abroad candidates may not be on academic or financial aid probation.
  • Proof of insurance is required for the period of the study abroad.
