Mission 430 S. Michigan Kathleen Kane-Willis, Interim Director The Institute for Metropolitan Affairs is the unit within Roosevelt University chiefly responsible for applying university resources to the solution of public policy problems facing the Chicago metropolitan area. The Institute is committed to eventually working equally with city and suburbs, thereby facilitating the integration of Roosevelt’s two campuses, and promoting the university’s identity as a single entity operating in the Chicago region. The Institute works primarily in the fields of social welfare, drug policy, and regional affairs. Work in social welfare includes the fields of poverty studies, race relations, social services, education and community development, fields consistent with Roosevelt’s historic identification and traditions. Drug policy work focuses on issues such as alternatives to incarceration and expansion of treatment services. Regional work focuses on problems affecting the Chicago region as a whole, or suburbs located within a sub-area of the Chicago region. The Institute is responsive to the research interests of faculty members. The Institute advances its mission through a number of vehicles. These include:
