Roosevelt University Colleges
Training and Development | Human Resources

University programs are designed to meet a number of educational needs
and to provide for both general and specialized education.
Roosevelt offers both undergraduate and graduate students the choice
of many majors and pre-professional programs leading to advanced degrees.

College of Arts and Sciences
Some fifty years ago, the College of Arts and Sciences began to offer courses and programs "as starting points in a continuing and profitable self-education of the many interests of the enlightened person." This remains the goal of the college. The College's numerous courses seek to educate students to be citizens of the 21st century, with the ability to think critically, to understand our diverse and global society, and to understand the basic concepts of the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences which shape our physical and intellectual world.

Arts and Sciences programs are organized through the following School structure:

  • School of Communication
  • School of Science and Technology
  • School of Psychology
  • School of Policy Studies
  • School of Liberal Studies

Walter E. Heller College of Business Administration
The mission of the Walter E. Heller College of Business Administration (WEHCBA) is to give students a career-oriented business education that:

  • emphasizes personal and professional integrity, and
  • stresses the social responsibility of business.

At the graduate level, the emphasis is on the integration of basic competencies with specialized education to create genuine expertise in one of the functional areas of business. For both undergraduate and graduate students, the recurring themes of integrity and socially responsible business practices are interwoven into the curricula, thus reflecting the progressive principles exemplified in the lives of the University's namesakes, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt.

Chicago College of Performing Arts
Commencing in the Fall of 1997, Roosevelt University brings together its professional degree programs in music and theater. The College of Performing Arts represents the merger of the Chicago Music College and the Theater Program. The mission of the new College is to nurture, support and develop creative artists who are able to express most effectively, in the words of Ernest L. Boyer, "the deepest concerns of the human mind and the highest aspirations of the human's spirit." By educating gifted performers and inspired teachers, the College of Performing Arts enriches our society beyond measure.

Evelyn T. Stone College for Professional Studies
The Evelyn T. Stone College for Professional Studies, formerly the college of Continuing Education, was founded in 1966 to serve returning adult students 25 years of age or older through its Bachelor of General Studies (B.G.S.) program. Since then the college has added a variety of credit and noncredit programs serving diverse student populations of all ages. All of these programs share the common philosophy that education is enhanced by making use of the prior learning of the student as well as the formal expertise of the faculty member, that academic programs should be adaptable to the personal and professional needs of the student, that general education requirements can be satisfied through a series of integrating seminars focusing on both academic skills and interdisciplinary understanding, and that academic advising is a crucial aspect of a successful degree program. All of the college's programs are designed by its faculty in consultation with the faculty from the university at large and, where appropriate, with professionals from business and industry.

College of Education
The College of Education's commitment to undergraduate students is to provide academic programs of high quality for prospective educators. Through the continuous evaluation and refinement of the academic program, offerings are kept current and relevant to the needs of a diverse student body. Faculty members continually seek to develop a creative and humane environment for learning. All education programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and all certificate programs are approved by the Illinois State Board of Education.

The college is organized to bring together talent and resources from a variety of disciplines. Accordingly, issues and problems of significance to the field are addressed from a broad perspective. The curriculum includes a variety of field experiences that integrate theories of teaching and learning with practical experience to produce a well-rounded professional preparation for teaching.

Degree programs are also available at the Graduate and Doctoral level.
